You know, this actually isn't a bad idea if done properly, but since Matthew Knowles is in charge of it, it'll be just like Motown - none of the dirty, gritty truth. It'll probably just be kinda cheesy which is sad because if you've followed Destiny's Child, they really did have a very interesting backstory. Plus, if Beyonce has any say in it, she wouldnt let him paint her into any sort of bad light.

I may be in a minority, but I think that a Destiny's Child jukebox musical could be a good idea - I like their music and I think that Beyonce is one of the few great pop icons of the 21st century. However, straightforward biopics seem incredibly bland when compared to the likes of "& Juliet", "Jagged Little Pill" or "Once Upon A One More Time", which are taking more unique and innovative approaches towards late 90's/early 2000's music.

How innovative and unique are jukebox musicals, anyway? Whether it's a bio, adapted or original story, it really just comes down to the material. We've seen plenty of non-bio jukebox musicals crash and burn over the years. When it comes to 90s music Cruel Intentions was surprisingly fun, but Holler if Ya Hear Me flopped and for early 00s music, American Idiot was absolutely brilliant.

Innovative may be a huge overstatement, but I feel like bio musicals are easily the least interesting kind. I get that the appeal is almost entirely based on the songs, and most non-bio jukebox musicals are guilty pleasures at best (Mamma Mia is the most infamous example) but I feel like that approach often does more to highlight the appeal of an act than a retelling of their life story. A biopic of 90's Swedish pop producers would be incredibly boring, but & Juliet looks like silly goofy fun...

Ummmm why? A musical that is gonna waste my time for 2 and a half hours trying to sell me on some kind of fake struggle about the launching of the group or something? If you are gonna do a BIO jukebox musical, the bio better be interesting enough to carry a show. Also, you might want to make sure it paints you in a positive light because there is NOTHING positive about the things Mathew Knowles did for the group.
I can already see some kind of scene trying to paint the girls that left the group in a negative light because they were jealous of the attention Beyonce was getting while painting her some kind of untouchable angel or some bull like that.
A pop culture history lesson time.
Knowles not only favored his daughter and Rowland in the group was was giving them a higher cut of profits then the other 2 original girls. When they (Luckett and Roberson) found out, they asked to be treated fairly and be given a more equal cut of the profits. They also sought their own management as they felt they needed someone that was going to fight for them and not keep shafting them like Knowles. In response, Mathew Knowles replaced them. They didn't quit, they didn't leave, they were replaced. Even Beyonce lied in press and said that they left. They did not. They didn't even find out they were replaced until they saw the "Say My Name" music video which featured THEIR vocals but was filmed without them and instead with the 2 new girls (Franklin and Williams). Yeah, that is NOT Franklin and Williams vocals in that song. That is Luckett and Roberson. Then Franklin left only 5 months later because she realized she was just being used as just a body in the group as she had no control or say in any decision making for the group.
I wonder if he paints Luckett, Roberson, and Franklin in any kind of negative light to make HIM or his daughter look good, could they sue him?

Beyonce doesn't communicate with her farther since the affair and love-child, and Latavia & Latoya go backstage and say hi to her pretty often during her concerts (as recently as Beychella). I dont think any of them would be okay with this IF he was going to make it some kinda trashy slander. But hey, who knows.

There was definitely a period of estrangement, but she alludes to a reconciliation in her documentary Life is But a Dream.
Separately, as the biggest Beyonce stan I know, I have to vehemently oppose this. No need to tarnish Destiny's Child's legacy with a mediocre bio-musical. Beyonce sending Farrah home from the recording studio is peak drama, but an entire musical (or bio film for that matter), it does not make. Not to mention Mathew is borderline amoral.

I predict that similar to most bio-musicals, this will sell well out of the gate as fans and the Curious rush to see it. especially if Beyoncé endorses it. It’ll last longer than most because there’s no denying Beyoncé is one of the few mega music stars of the moment, but like most it’ll fade and close before recoupment.

Nothing from Johnson will ever come to Broadway. He does shows for the “Seasoning Circuit.”
Also Mathew is a sleaze. Apparently he was connected to some recent leaks of photos of Beyoncé’s children, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were on the outs again.
He’s also making some kind of interactive Destinys Child game or something. I truly believe that the girls would have recorded a song or two by now, but Mathew owns the rights to the group so they don’t want him to profit.
In closing, no one wants this. I hope it gets shelved.
