i think there is a possibly that we will wait much longer for this. as much as i want this to come out in late summer or fall, this movie could possibly be released next year. cause the crew only had 20 days left to complete the movie and with the virus going on, they had to halt post production and they don’t know for sure when they will go back to work. so we might have to wait much much longer sadly. even if the virus does die down and it gets released in the summer still, it would have to compete with wonder woman. and if they release it later this year, it would have to compete with west side story and i don’t want that to happen.

The film is completed. Per Lin, they were scoring the film when everything shutdown. Scoring a film is one of the final stages of post-production. Once they complete the scoring, they literally can release the film in a few hours. The only delay once things resume will be based on the marketing aspect as they want to make sure it has a big opening profit wise. It’s original release date was intended a summer blockbuster release. It’s safe to assume they want this level of opening weekend as well.

At least it’s vague enough by not including a release date.

it’s official. in the heights has been delayed until next year. the movie will now be released on june 18 2021. i am so bummed that we have to wait another year. it’s the best decision considering the coronavirus outbreak but it still hurts.

Yeah that is a pretty big bummer, but I can see why they would push it to next year so that it won't compete with and be compared to West Side Story in December. Plus this one feels right to be a summer musical.

it’s also because they haven’t completed post production yet. they want to make sure that this movie is released right.

It's too bad. I was really hoping it would open in August or September back when all this started, but that quickly seemed unrealistic given the way the crisis has been handled by the federal government.

^ Me too. Because I have been waiting ten years for this movie when the national tour came to California. My school was supposed to have a second weekend of shows for their production until the Virus got out of control.

i have waited for this movie for the longest. and to wait even more especially a year is more stressful. i hate the fact that this virus had to happen this year. it ruined everything. however, they want this movie to be released in the best way possible and it will be worth the wait.

Worry/Concern: with a year to go - that gives the production team (and studio) more time to, ahem, mess with the film or make it better. Did they finish all the pick-ups/reshoots/small additions that were planned?

I trust LMM and Chu more than a studio with time on its hands and executives trying to justify their salaries.

a person on reddit saw a rough cut of the movie and he felt that the movie needed more time. and he felt that there was a lack of cultural authenticity. he said that it felt like a pastiche instead of what should have felt real and natural. he said that the music was great and the comic relief worked. and he said that the book scenes felt clunky.

I wouldn't say that. At all.

Selena didn't turn their Hispanic and Mexican characters into caricatures.

I felt like the rough cut I saw of ITH did that a lot with the ancillary cast.

I hope they edit it well and reshoot a bit, because it could be an incredible film.
"

how was the representation in this movie? was there afro latino representation?

The film was to be released in June 2020 so it was already finished with all post-production work.  Heck, we even have the film’s trailer available to watch.

It can be released in an hour if they choose to as can the original film soundtrack.  Everything was ready to go until they decided to push back the film’s release to June 2021.

It wasn'r ready and post wasn't completed. They were still scoring the film. We still don't know if they went back already.
