I got to catch Eric Gutman play Bob Gaudio this past weekend. I think Eric has a true gift for comedy and he's a great actor. He was hilarious in "Oh What a Night", when he's sitting there before he's approached by Melissa Strom and also after he blows out smoke and does the dance move. In all, Eric gave a great performance, and it was great to hear his voice blend in with the four part harmonies as well.
Erich, get better soon!

I agree. I saw his debut as Tommy and thought he was excellent. His Tommy was a bit more grittier then Deven but he had a twist of humor. On some lines he got bigger laughs from the audience then Deven has in the times i've seen the show. His voice isn't bad either. He sounded great during "Silhouettes" and "Your the Apple of My Eye".
Edit: Thanks to everyone who posted a review of the understudies.

Hey guys,
I made sure to tell Miles & Eric that everyone here liked their performances. It's always pretty damn scary for an understudy to go on for the first time and they were treated very well by the audience. Sorry to anyone who missed me this weekend. Throat still not feeling great, but hopefully back in t'mow night.
I was thinking...there seems to be a want of a Q & A...Im gonna try to maybe schedule a live chat thing, or a place where you guys can send in questions to be answered. More on that soon.
I would love to see the 2nd company perform. I really want to see see Jarrod's Frankie. I've already seen Steve's Nick and really enjoyed it. I don't know anything about the other two guys.

Erich, Thanks for passing on our thoughts about their performances to Eric and Miles. They really are great not only when they're doing their regular tracks but also when they're on as the Four Seasons. And if you can set up a Q & A thing that would be great because I'm sure alot of us have questions to ask you and the rest of the guys that we can't ask at the stage door. Well hope you're getting back to 100% and you and the rest of the cast enjoy the rest of your time in SF.
Erich....thanks for making the Sherry Montage on You tube :P I hope you can also share some of the videos from the Benefit show
My question to you for that Q & A
(that I was supposed to ask Rick and Jen but ran out of time)
is:
what are your most memorable experiences in your 5 months stay here in San Francisco?

Can you also imagine having to play both Tommy and Bob in the span of a week? They're such polar opposite roles. The understudies have a monumental job. It sounds like Eric did a great job in both roles.
Hey guys,
2 things. First off, I just posted a video from the benefit concert. It's of Jackie Seiden singing "I Believe In You", a song she sang in "The Times They Are A' Changin". She sounds fantastic! More videos from the benefit will take a little more time. I'm still waiting for a better copy of the video from the foundation. The video I have now is just bits and pieces with a few songs getting filmed in full. More soon I promise.
And, as I mentioned before, if you have a question you would like to ask the Jersey Boys Sherry Cast, check out my blog at erichbergen.wordpress.com. Put in your own question by Friday, and we will do the answers in a video blog.
yay!

Congrats goes out to the SF company. They raised the most money for BC/EFA out of any show out there for the Easter Bonnet Competition. This is first time a touring show has won this honor. Once again, Congratulations!!

Wow, that's amazing!!! They raised A LOT in that last week - didn't they say at the cabaret they'd only raised $160,000?
$103 of that was me! (Over three visits.)
:)
I'm so happy for them. & BC/EFA!
My signed playbill, ONO ticket and tour counted! Yay!

The cast really knows how to get people to open up their wallets for charity. Hell they got me to throw in a big chunk of change, but it's all for a good cause.

Matinee?? I went to the show last night...
Rick was phenomenal. Really, I was so impressed after (honestly) being slightly let down by Jarrod in the role. His voice is amazingly strong and I can't fault his acting at all. The only scenes he wasn't pitch perfect in were the last twenty minutes, but I feel that's 80% because his looks don't really allow you to buy into the maturity that "Fallen Angel" and that final monologue requires. He's not quite as intense as Chris, but I love so much of his performance that it didn't really matter.
Miles was on again as Gaudio and was INFINITELY better. Not only did he land most of the jokes but his voice sounded much stronger, especially in "Cry for Me." I'm actually starting to think that he works better in the show than Erich, since Erich tends to draw focus and steal scenes he has no right doing - when Bob's supposed to not like performing and being on stage. Not that I'm not aching for Erich to come back. I am. But Miles was so much better, I'm so (freakishly) proud!
Taylor was on in Brandon's track, possibly the most hilarious part of the show last night. He said at the stage door that his "Hal Miller and the Rays" in the afro is "Ari Miller and the Dreidels" when he plays the part. Officially my favorite person ever.
Everyone else was solid. Michael's the only one of the main parts I've never seen anyone else play (and I've never seen John Altieri out, but I think everyone else has been covered at one point or another), and they need to reinstate the replacement Tony award just so that they can give it to Deven if he ever comes to the Broadway production.

LOL! Oh lawdy. Is he really in the afro? Because it looks pretty awful on Brandon, too -- I can only imagine how it looks on Taylor. (I've never actually seen Taylor go on.)

Yeah, it was pretty ridiculous. BUT AMAZING. His delivery of "Make it out to Love Muffin!" was similarly hilarious.
BTW, the balcony was more than half empty last night. Apparently (according to the lighting guys, who I'm now friends with I'm there so much - he said to me "As Bob says to Nick in the show: You really need help!") the balcony has really been thinning out in the early weeknights.
Are they ever going to announce the new cast? Or will they pull a JLY and announce it days after the new cast starts? :)

Shesamarshmallow thanks for that review.
It sounds like Rick does a great job as Frankie. Too bad I'll never see him him or the next alternate Frankie go on until this summer. And it's great to hear that Miles has gotten used to playing Bob. I would love to see his take on the role now. Although I do hope Erich gets back to 100%, hopefully it's by this weekend. And Taylor in the afro wig, I'm sure that was a sight to be seen. I've seen him in Brandon's track before but I don't think they put the wig on him that time.
And by the way, exactly how many times have you seen JB?
I'm gonna rush now!

Aw, you should buy a $30 balcony seat! Totally worth it, and you could probably move down to the $70 seats on Tuesday, practically no one was there!
The afro was subtle, but definitely there!
Jackie said Erich has bronchitis but said he should be back by Thursday. Here's hoping!
Last night was my 8th.
