Never watched the show when it was on (it's finishing its run on CBS as we speak). I've been catching it in repeats on TBS the past few weeks and was extremely taken aback by the amount of theater references on the show. I see a framed Jersey Boys poster in the background now. In an episode aired last night, they mentioned going to see Spamalot.
Just remember that it's 2 references more than the other shows on TV.
Go figure.

Seinfeld had the episode with the amazing technicolor dreamcoat and on another episode, there were Broadway posters on the walls of the subway. Those posters gave Broadway a nod but us New Yorkers know that those kind of posters are only set decoration and are not on New York subways. George bought Jerry "Guys and Dolls" tickets. George sang "Master Of The House" from Les Mis too.
Facts of Life girls went to see Sophisticated Ladies on Broadway. Tootie was the lead in their "South Pacific."
The Nanny saw Sunset Blvd, and others.
The Honeymooners were going to see "Murder Strikes Out" on Broadway.
Curb Your Enthusiasm had the Producers storyline.
The Golden Girls were always doing or trying out for a play, "Blanche and Rose in Cats, Blanche in The Taming Of The Shrew, Blanche and Rose in The Sound Of Music, Blanche, Rose and Dorothy in the play with the famous actor who hits on all the actresses,
all the girls in Henny Penny)
The Simpsons always give Broadway a nod, "Cats, On The Town, Streetcar, Mary Poppins pre-Broadway, Beauty and the Beast- See My Vest, etc."
Will and Grace.
Tracy Ullman in an hbo special- she played a tourist who wound up on the Broadway stage.
FUN!
Calista Flockhart and Sally Field were holding WICKED programs on Brothers and Sisters.
UGLY BETTY: Henry offers to take Betty to WICKED and leaves her a t-shirt from the show.
Some Will & Grace references:
Will refers to an overly dramatic Jack as 'Eponine'.
Jack & Karen say they're going to Bea Arthur's one-woman show so they call yell out 'Maude'.
Grace runs into Will's father at Seussical.
They go to Sing-a-long Sound of Music.
A closeted Will (in the 1980s) hides his worn-out cast recording of Dreamgirls.
i saw that episode from will and grace at suessical. ugly betty with wicked was nice. the comparision was nice also- green girl doesn't belong, misunderstood, ugly girl, doesn't fit in, misunderstood. Ohh yeah, also in ugly betty, justin was trying out for the music man
Also, in the Simpsons, the opening number of the Streetcar musical was based on "No Place Like London" from Sweeney Todd.
There's a Broadway reference on almost ever episode of Veronica Mars.
"There we are in front of Spamalot."
"Where do you live? Brigadoon?"
and the last episode
"How very footloose." which of course could have been refering to the movie, but I like to think it's a Broadway reference.
Scrubs musical episode
Head Of The Class did the plays Grease and Little Shop Of Horrors- I think I remember Robin Givens playing Audrey with a big black wig.
Saved By The Bell put on the play Snow White.
The Brady's put on Snow White.
Roseanne's sister Jackie was in the Lanford Players production of Cyrano.
The Golden Girls were always going to the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater to see "Ruth Buzzi in Evita or Jamie Farr in the Caine Mutiny.."
Seinfeld- Bette Midler "Rochelle, Rochelle" the musical episode.
Seinfeld- Kramer is on the Tony Awards/ Racquel Welch.

"Just remember that it's 2 references more than the other shows on TV"
You must not watch much TV. I myself am not an avid tv watcher, but Will & Grace has countless references, Family Guy, Buffy had the musical episode, Friends (Joey once performed at the Lortel), Seinfeld, and I'm sure the list goes on.
There's another episode of King of Queens where Carrie takes her father to see Annie Get Your Gun.
To add yet another Will & Grace theatre-related reference, Karen mentions seeing Will and his boyfriend at Fiddler on the Roof. And Minnie Driver's character on the show was in the chorus of Taboo.
Also in Seinfeld: one of Elaine's friends/George's ex-girlfriends gets Lyme Disease while doing an outdoor production of Hair...
JERRY: How did she get Lyme disease?
ELAINE: I don't know. She did some outdoor version of Hair in Danbury, Connecticut.
JERRY: They still do that play?
ELAINE: It's a classic.
JERRY: With all the nudity?
ELAINE: I guess. She must've rolled over on a tick during the love-in.
sex in the city- marcus was a chorus boy, mary testa sang "and all that jazz" at the cabaret lounge
jeopardy- broadway week
this may be a stretch, but nearly all episodes of 'Desperate Housewives' are named after or referenced to a Sondheim Musical titles.
Producer 2 - better for sex and the city, lachanze is a hostess and julia murney flirts with smith when he's a waiter
Carilne in the City - Caroline's neighbor/friend was in Cats

The Nanny saw Sunset Blvd, and others.
----------------
The main character on The Nanny (apart from the titular nanny) was a Broadway producer, so they had plenty of references. Never have I seen a show mock Andrew Lloyd Weber so frequently.

Hey Arnold!- They went to see RATS
King Of Queens- They went to see a show at the Music Box and there was a Les Miz marquee in the background.
Will and Grace- They go to london to see Billy Elliot
i remember that hey arnold episode! Helga wanted to see wrestlemania but on the back of the flyer, there was an advertidment for rats. So the dad thought she wanted to see rats
On "Designing Women," Julia stars in a local production of "Mame," along with Mary Jo (who is Gooch) and guest star Broadway actress Gretchen Wyler, who played Ivy, the drunken community theatre tyrant who was cast as Vera.
In the end, Ivy gets too drunk to go onstage, so Anthony dresses up as Vera and performs "Bosom Buddies" with Julia.
It's always funny how the shows pay tribute to a show but use it in a way that doesn't even make sense. If Ivy was truly too drunk to go on stage, there would have been problems long before they got to the song "Bosom Buddies" (which is in the second act). Or when the Golden Girls did "The Sound of Music," they practice a scene that's never been in any version of the show. ("The Nazis are coming! The Nazis are coming!")
Oh yeah, and in "The Critic," they had an extended joke about there being a musical version of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."
In the DVD commentator, the writers said they picked it because it seemed like one of the worst possible ideas for musicalization. Unbeknownst to them, in a matter of years, Disney actually did it with the film.

How about a classic that takes place at a Broadway show. In an episode of I Love Lucy, the Ricardos and the Mertzes go to the Imperial Theater to see The Most Happy Fella. They have to sit 4 people to two seats in a box becuase Lucy bought tickets for the wrong time.
As someone mentioned, Family Guy has the references all the time. There are random West Side Story dance sequences among other things.
I think there was a thread about Broadway references on TV. I mean, there was that episode of Friends where Rachel was trying to do a crossword puzzle by herself and she told Chandler they should see the 1996 Tony award winner, what is it, and then Chandler said Rent, and she was like yes! and he was like when do you want to go and she was like I can't, I'm busy.
there's lots of thoser references all over tv.
