Disney will be dimming The New Amsterdam marquee according to the Aladdin twitter
Dim the freaking lights! The lady deserves it.
Fist they've taken out the In Memoriam segment from the Tony telecast and now this. Disgraceful.
They have almost 5,000 signatures on that petition, plus the backing of tons of luminaries. I'm wondering what it'll take. Would it be a tragedy to admit they were WRONG???
This Charlotte St. Martin is clearly a sick woman. If you're gonna dim the lights for a Robin Williams, you HAVE to dim for Joan Rivers. YOU made the choice to honor people who are not strictly theater (Williams, Gandolfini) so you can't be surprised when people get upset.
To honor Robin and not Joan is pure snobbery at it's worst. Shame on you, Charlotte St. Martin. Dim the lights on your SOUL.

According to FindingNamo, yes. It would be a tragedy to even acknowledge Joan and her passing. We should all just ignore her death and pretend like nothing happened.
It really goes to show that if you don't like how someone handled a situation, speaking out can change it. So to the people that said "the decision is made", "move on", "get over it" or "let it go" maybe it's a small lesson. Just because you don't care doesn't mean you should try to silence people that do.

And don't bring your crappy vendettas into this thread EITHER, Headband.

VERY disappointed in St. Martin and the League. This is a pretty grievous mistake on their part and they must be in PR hell right now. So grateful for Jordan Roth taking the first step.
I'm sure the League wasn't expecting a PR nightmare this week. They still have about 6 hours to make it right.
Also, if they DO end up doing the right thing, this will be the most high profile light dimming maybe ever and I think that's exactly what Joan would have wanted.

Oh, it IS, Jordan! Here's hoping she gets the honor she deserves....
I also fully expect the League to issue a statement sometime very soon with new, set in stone rules regarding who is eligible for this from now on.
The League's Facebook page disabled the Comments box because the comments were overwhelmingly negative yesterday.
But they left up the Review box, so you can still go on and leave them a 1-star review with a comment.

I was able to just leave a basic comment a few minutes ago, PJ...
The entire thing disgusts me. I'll be outside Gentleman's Guide tonight unless the Schuberts join in. Then I'll be on 45th.
I was going to go to the Hirsch, home of Kinky Boots, whose tagline is "You can change the world when you change your mind!"
Would that the League felt that way-or at least the Shuberts.

Really, with all the brouhaha the Broadway League has gone through, they should have just gone ahead and done it. Joan wrote and starred in two Broadway shows. It's not like it's Hunter Foster ripping Julia Roberts.

The entire thing is crazy. She's a Tony nominee for Christ's sake. Why this even has to be a discussion is beyond me. If a Tony nomination isn't enough reason, what the hell is?!
If Elaine Stritch hadn't been in A Little Night Music, would they have deemed her ineligible too?
The Broadway League looks pretty disgusting right now. They need to step up and do the right thing before it's too late.
While not Broadway, Theatre Row will be dimming their lights as well tonight at 6:45.

Has anyone called The Broadway League and expressed their outrage? Thinking about doing so.

This whole thing has turned what was a beautiful remembrance into exactly what the league didn't want - an ugly, crass contest over who is more deserving of the honor.
This has tainted the ceremony for me. I hope they stop doing it entirely if we've come to this.

In case anyone else wants to call them, they can be reached at 212-764-1122. Tell them to #Dim4Joan!
Roundabout will be dimming the lights as well.
Awesome! And ghostlight, I know exactly what you mean. But like I said before, I kind of think in a way this is befitting Joan's memory. All this publicity, all this hoopla over her. I think it's even more appropriate than the actual dimming.
I believe in standing up for what I believe in-just as I believe Joan did. I think she was treated unfairly and that she was 'made an example of' with the recent barrage of celebrity dimmings. In that way, it is wrong. She really stood up for the theater she loved so much. And I feel we owe it to her to stand up for her, too!
Roundabout coming on board is great! MTC will likely follow but...
Shuberts...it's not too late!!!!! Nederlanders...if we can get 2 of the big 3, maybe the third will come on board!!!

I hope they don't set anything in stone. It should be an honor bestowed upon people who contributed to the theatre, not a checklist achievement. Sure it means there will be debate from time to time as to whether somebody was truly due this sign of respect, but I'd rather have it be an open possibility rather than "well, they missed this one requirement, so nothing else matters" type of thing.

Is it safe to assume they will ALL dim at 6:45 with Jujamcyn?
