"It bothers me when substandard material STAYS on B'way."

Call them substandard material, but some of these shows really introduce and get people into theater.

It was one of the ugliest, most horribly directed shows ever, but I saw it 6 times and loved it 5 of those times (all with the fabulous Heidi Blickenstaff as Ursula). Will I be sad to see it go? Meh. I hope the actors in the show find work because they are all incredibly talented.

So did High School Musical.

But I totally agree: there is inherent good beneath it. My kids (8 & 12) see almost every 'appropriate' show available to them. I'm lucky that they will view what they see with a critical eye...and not just be bamboozled with glitz.

The sets were probably the only thing I liked about the show. Unfortunately, some of the effects even made that look bad. The new songs were hideous and do not even get me started on the heelies.
Goodbye, and good riddance.

Though I love the movie and the music, I could not bring myself to go see this show after the whole Adrian Bailey incident. Even though I don't know him, his story struck me that deeply.

While everyone else mourns the show's closing, I will instead celebrate his life, and wish the cast my best as they venture off to other things.

This entire production was a giant missed opportunity. It could have been so much better, given how strong the film is. It's disappointing that this is what they came up with.

I place about 99% of the blame for this fiasco on the director, Francesca Zambello, who should not be allowed to direct musicals. EVER.

Agreed. Zambello should stick to Opera. Clearly she has no clue how to stage a musical. I also blame Doug Wright whose book was a mess, from the incomprehensible plot changes (what was the point of moving Under The Sea?) to the ridiculous ending.

It was amazing! Some of old cast members were in the audience (Sherie Rene Scott, Derrick Baskin, Heidi Blickenstaff). Lucas Grabeel of HSM was there in the audience. All of the producers and directors were also in the audience.

The show itself had a lot of energy tonight. Faith Prince was better than the last time I saw her, but was still horrible. The best thing about her today was a girl at the stagedoor saying" how do you know she won't go on tour." Thinking in my head, if the producers saw the same show I did, they probably regretted ever letting her into the show. I found the flaw in Drew Seeley's Prince Eric. his voice is not mature enough and neither is himself. Also, a major flaw I saw were all of the replacements. I don't knw if was me because I have seen Sierra Boggess in the show the other 6 times and Chelsea just didn't stand up to her even though she was good. The audience were loving every minute of the show. EVERY main character on the first page on the playbill of pictures got an entering applause. The entire cast got a standing ovation at the curtain call starting with the Under the Sea (reprise, reprise).

The biggest shock of the night, Sherie Rene Scott came out the stagedoor and signed for people who asked her. The only reason I could think of why she did it this time instead of during her run in the show is because she wasn't in the Playbill and not many would know who she is.

I really wish the best for the cast, especially Norm Lewis. What a humble guy. We talked for a little and he is one of the nicest Broadway stars I have met.

The merchandise was ridiculous too. There was practically NOTHING left. They were handing out the program to every person that came in the door for free. I bought one of the pins for a $1.

The show will be missed to me, but will live on elsewhere.

Update: One thing that just happened. I went to the Little Mermaid website and it says that a national tour begins in the fall of 2009! Is this a mistake on their part or is it really starting this year.

Ariel and Ursula needed a confrontation song. That all happened too quickly.

Ah! The Disney on Broadway site looks so depressing without Mermaid there! (And Mufasa looks like he wants to kill me.)

re: The Little Mermaid Farewell Thread

Well I attended todays final performance of Mermaid and boy did the audience have GREAT energy! Before I continue on to the critque of the Final Show I want to give my two cents about Sherie Rene Scott;

I have heard numerous times from alot of people (ecspecially the majority of users at BWW) about how Sherie grew to hate Mermaid and little kids and signing/taking pictures, Well after meeting her for the first time today I could not disagree more.

She sat literally 5 feet away from me and was smiling and cheering (not just applauding;"wooooing") throughout the entire show and at curtain call was one of the first people standing up to applaud; for ensemble mind you. She even said after the show to Sean Palmer "I miss this".
So I honestly dont think she "hated" mermaid or else she would have not been there..
At intermission myself and 2 little girls (about 7 or re: The Little Mermaid Farewell Thread approached her and I let the little girls go ahead of me and Sherie could not seem to be more happy. She engaged the little kids in conversation FAR longer than I anticipated, and asked there names to adress the playbills. When the conversation was drawing to a close the little girl said something along the lines of I was always scared of ursula but your really nice and not mean and sherie awed and hugged the little girl.
So I then went up to her and engaged in a brief conversation and asked her to sign my playbill. After that I asked her for a picture (I felt like I was pushing it but I tested my luck) and she graciously obliged. So my friend took the picture and the flash didnt come on and I looked at it and it was very dark. I didnt want to ask for another picture as that would deffinetly be pushing it I felt so right before I was about to walk away Sherie said "Lemme see how it came out" so I showed her and she told me "Thats too dark lets take another" and we did.
Sherie was so gracious and seemed to enjoy the show alot; You cant base her "hating" the show or fans just because she never wanted to stage door. The woman had a stalker and was obviously tramatized Its a horrible experience and makes you live in constant fear trust me..

But the show was absolutly great. Everyone (cast and audience) had so much energy and it was just a fun night. Faith was better than I anticipated (but the worst Ursula out of the three). I felt Drew was HIGHLY overrated and his voice and style of singing did not fit the "Prince Eric" role AT ALL. He should stick to disney channel..

At Curtain call Norm Lewis was crying and it was very emotional and the ovation was so loud!

The only thing that urked me was this...While Waiting at the stage door (the door was open) Faith Prince was walking around with someone inside and (there was only about 9 of us left) the girl she was with asked "are you gonna sign?" and Faith laughed it off and said "I dont do that". and then proceeded to walk away.

I have no problem with a certain actor or actress not wanting to sign but to be rude like that was just unproffesional I felt.

Faith seems like a total snob of the stagedoor. I don't think she came out because instead of people telling her you were so good, they would have told her she sucked, even though she improved a lot.

Saveusmike- I left after Drew Seeley came out and saw Rogelio, but already had him on my poster so I left. Did anyone else come out.

A few Ensemble but that was it.
Norm ,Chelsea, all the main leads came out except for Faith Prince but she was there, just refused to sign..

It still urks me literally 9 people were there but she refused to come out even for that small of a crowd.

I didn't stage door when I saw Sherie in the show so I can't base my thinking she didn't like it on that. I had thought she didn't like it because her performance was horrible. The day I saw it she was absolutely phoning it in and simply seemed bored.

Mille, the first time I saw the show I saw it from first row and didn't enjoy it. I definitely enjoyed it more when I saw it from the mezzanine.

Also, I met Faith last year at the Catered Affair stage door. She signed, she joked, and was absolutely adorable. I don't know why she doesn't come out at TLM. But it's not because she hates to stage door.

ETA: I don't dislike SRS. I thought she was amazing in Everyday Rapture. I just felt her performance in TLM had no life.

Thanks, all. I was wondering about Sherie Rene Scott's signing autographs.

Not.

I am glad to hear about the positive audience reaction at the show's closing.

I originally was going to see this show in the rear mezzanine (all I could afford), but because of the strike, I got a refund. So I ended up rushing the show a few months later around 9:00 a.m. I was the first one in line so ended up with the a seat in the front row center orchestra on the aisle. Perhaps I should've made another trip to see the show from another area of the theater, but I couldn't justify at the time spending more money to see the show.

Nonetheless, glad to see this show closed on a positive note. The remaining original cast is talented. Hope to see Norm Lewis in something new soon.

Thank you, YankeeFan. For some people, the real show begins at the stage door. Sad, but true.

If you must know...

I was walking home one day listening to my ipod and someone came up to me and knocked the Head phones out of my ears
(At the time I didnt even know anyone was behind me).
So I just look at the person and I dont really know what to say and he just walks with me and Tells me to give him my ipod and cellphone. This was the first time this ever happend to me so I didnt really know what to make of it and I asked him if this was some kind of joke. He didnt answer my question and demanded I take out my stuff. At that moment I knew he was serious so I look around to see if I can yell for help and all I see are two people (that are with him) about 5 or so feet behind us.
I contemplated running and he pulled out a gun very casually and told me not to scream or move. So I handed over my stuff (and well digging in my pocket for my cellphone he saw my wallet and demanded that; which I really begged him not to take because it had my only picture with my ex girlfriend whom I loved alot)
After I handed him my stuff he just walked away and his friends watched me until he told them to come on and they just walked away as if nothing had happend.

I was extremly scared for so long and always thought the worst (I was paranoid that he would find me and kill me or rob my house or something because he had ALL my information).
You have no idea how scary it was and how long it took to finally stop living in fear and thinking that everyone who looks at you funny is trying to rob/kill you.

Theres my story if you must know.

Thank you so much Millie!
It was a horrible life altering experience but I honestly believe that people like that have whats coming to them. It wasnt even the fact that I lost my possesions more than the fact that I lived in constant fear afterwards, and I never felt like that before in my life.
