The Next Elphaba? — Page 2

I agree. It really is unknown. No one knows for certain. And actually, Ana's contract is up in January. Kate Reinders revealed that in an interview with Playbill, I believe. Kate expressed interest in coming to Broadway and said that Wicked is like a giant family, kind of implying that there may be some tour or Chicago cast members movin' on up to the Gershwin. Whether it's an Elphaba or a Boq, who's to say? But I think it's going to be like Rent, with tour cast members moving to the Broadway cast...

If Stephanie takes over, I hope Saycon stays as the understudy.
Stephanie has a habit of missing shows. Often.

Didn't Steph have a great record during Boy From Oz? like she actually showed up!

OMG, give Stephanie a break - she got injured AT WORK! The doctors and the producers OWE her time to heal and if that means sitting out a show or two a week then that's what she is REQUIRED TO DO, not what she WANTS to do. And she is now missing SF specifically so she can be back in full time. I think it's amazing she's performed as often as she did considering how injured she was.
K, I'm done now...carry on with your hypothesizing about the unknown. :)

I've actually heard from a pretty reliable source that they're trying to bring Ethel Merman back from the dead to play Elphaba.
On a different note, Stephanie Block BETTER not go to Broadway just yet, because she's supposed to come down on tour to Ft. Lauderdale next February and I really want to get to see her perform.

I know a bunch of people who saw BFO at various points throughout the run, all of whom missed her.

I know Mandy Gonzalez is in Lennon but she needs to be Elphaba.
Second choice would be Sutton Foster.

I would agree with Mandy Gonzalez as Elphaba, but that would all depend on the fate of Lennon.
Hopefully it's Eden.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what?

thenardier - I can't really speak on her BFO absences except to say it's too bad they missed her. I'm really sorry. We're all human, but when she's on she's incredible.

Allow me to respectfully disagree with a comment above; tours are indeed often a tryout for Broadway. People get tried out on tours all the time.
Also, the idea that tours are less important or demanding is crazy; often the touring lead has to be just as good or better as the Broadway lead, because the audience isn't guaranteed to show up. No one would get the responsibility for opening a major production without being capable of giving a Broadway-caliber performance.
Finally, if a tour is produced by the same group who is producing the Broadway show, people can get moved around anytime. They don't have to wait until the contract is up to offer someone a role on Broadway.
Just wanted to clear those things up.

I'm telling you, it's going to be Bo Bice. He does a mean Defying Gravity...
Seriously - I hope it's an amazingly taltented unknown that they find at the Boston audition.

I'd love to see Eden back in NYC doing Wicked. I've read good reviews of her on tour in SF, and I saw a video of her singing at a promotional appearance and she was great. I'd like to see all the Elphabas so I so I can compare. I have seen Idina and she was fab. of course. Love to be (or have been...) a fly on the wall at the tryouts.
Bo Bice would be great too, he's got the hair.

I Am The Next Elphaba - I just need everything raised up about 2 steps so a guy can belt a lot, and I refuse to fly.
Any problems...bring it up with non-equity :P

Yeah, I remember hearing about Stephanie missing her share of performances during The Boy from Oz. Meaning not all of her absenses in Wicked can be blamed on her injury. I'm sure she was hurt by the accident, but her attendance record wasn't exactly great before it anyway.
I'm at the point where I hope they find a new face to come in and play Elphaba.

A new face would just add another name for us to argue about how she belts, how good she looks in green, whether she belongs on tour or on broadway, whether she squeaks or not, what other shows she could do, etc.

"Like I stated before,
Shoshana Leaves, Anas contract is up at the end of January in Chicago so shes not going to go to Broadway untill Febuary, Idina Menzel is going to repise Elphaba untill than. "
Sure, mr. Producer...

I'm the next Elphaba.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

Look,
As much as I love Idina, and love her in the role, she looked miserable near the end.
