This old warhorse has been in the offing for years
Now, according to playbill.com , it may be happening. No idea if & when it will ever get to Broadway though. Would love to see this, Marty & a revival of Golden Boy.
Well, the premise sounds.. interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I am sure they are trying to bring this to Broadway. That was the impression I got from the article. I was really hoping for something more original from these two but that may not be in the works. Hopefully, they haven't given up on that concept yet.
I'm holding out for Dancing in the Dark with Beth Leavel and Scott Bakula.

I think Dancing In The Dark may suffer the same fate as Never Gonna Dance.
I'm not familiar with that one. It will depend on the advertising. I like the plot of Dancing in..so I will do my best to come out and see it. It may have to start small and build it's way up. I love Fred Astaire and I think Scott can handle the publicity. I really think he can handle the part. He definitely has the charisma part. They have that guy too from The Grinch.
It's all about publicity. We will see...
I love the nostalgic song and dance routines. I have been really wishing for more of that on the big Stage. I was too young to see those shows.
I do fear something like Minsky's might be seen as a poor Man's Gypsy? Let's see how they handle the material. I can go to LA to see it if I want to. It will be interesting to see how it gets Cast.

That might help this thread.
While Charles Strouse provided the songs for the movie of Minsky's, I think the stage musical has a new score that he's written with Susan Birkenhead. I heard a few of the songs some years back, and as usual with Strouse, his work is excellent.
I already read that article. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. Though I still am hoping for something new from these two.
The Producer really wants this up on Broadway and if he has the money, it is going to happen.
Thanks smaxie, I'll be watching to see what happens with this show.
I would rather see that revival of Golden Boy happen first.
I'd hope that they'd keep the song that starts like this..."Take ten terrific girls, and only nine costumes...". Whatever its fate, we should be grateful that there are no mermaids or green ogres in it.
I hope it works out. Charles Strouse is one of the greats who, since he hasn't had a hit since "Annie," hasn't gotten his due...

Oh my! That did make me laugh!

I've often listened to the demo and was unfortunately not that impressed. At least compared to his other shows. But I'm pretty sure if he reworks the material a little it can come out as a beautiful show. His latest scores are terribly underrated but most likely that's due to his unlucky choices of collaborators so maybe his collaboration with Bob Martin will prove to be a luckier one.
And I have to agree, Marty deserves a Broadway run. It was done beautifully and I have never really understood why this show while being a box office hit did not get to be booked for a Broadway theatre.
I really hope Strouse can crank out another hit. And then a revival of Superman.

UPDATE!!
According to the musical director of the show, the reading they just had last week was fantastic! They are planning on doing a pre-broadway tryout at the Ahmanson starring KELLI OHARA and BETH LEAVEL, who both did the reading, and had a blast! This is sure to hit broadway next season!
Set Design by Anna Louizos (In the Heights, Ave Q, High Fidelity)
Lighting Design by Ken Billington (SITPWG, and many more...)
Costume design by Greg Barnes
No link to prove it, but the musical director of the show just sat through the reading with Nicholaw and cast, and said its happening!
EDIT: same musical director is doing ELF. Readings are comeing up. Will post more news when i hear it.

Oh! Thank you for the update. I'm going to try to see this in LA if I can. How much I love Beth Leavel on stage! Please let us know when more of the cast is announced. I'll google alert this too.
Do you mean, Gregg Barnes for Costumes? He made Drowsy's costumes too. I'm so glad they were able to sign him up again.

Gregg Barnes is, indeed, designing the costumes for Minsky's.
Doesn't surprise me, the day the Tonys were announced Kelli O'Hara mentioned she was doing a reading for a new musical.
