Probably not, J*...I need my 2 days off, but I'm still planning the get together when the Noms. come out. BTW SCARYOs, only the Orch section is being used (OBC). I think that's about 400 people.
It was absolutely incredible. Stew was hysterical as usual, but it was even better to see everyone out of character, and watch them have a great time. Amsterdam was electric, and it was just awe-inspiring. Plenty of empty seats, and totally worth taking off of work.
The theatre was not nearly as full as I expected it would be. It was general admission, so you could sit anywhere in the orchestra. They didn't even have to do the lottery.
I loved that I went today. Everyone sounded fantastic today. I thought Daniel Breaker sounded better today than he has the previous times I've seen him. The cast seemed like they really had fun up there.
Some of the tracks were slightly altered for the recording..very minor. They recorded the first part of Keys close to the beginning, and the second part towards the end. I went nuts for it.
I love what they did to "We Just Had Sex." "Baptist Fashion Show" and "Blues Revelation" also sounded awesome.
I hope a lot of the stuff today doesn't get cut. They didn't do Arlington Hill and some other stuff..They were saving that for the studio.
I have to add, the band is a very solid, very talented group of people. Heidi was great today.. It seems like she knows her ****. I loved the way they all communicated with each other. They just get each other.
I think Stew was getting a little irritated with the sound guys, but it wasn't a big deal. They all got the **** done and sounded great.

They ended up not even having a lotto just giving everyone who paid the $20 a ticket, it was really cool to see everyone giving it their all to sound great but still being able to sit and laugh and totally play off the audience being there. I had a great time.
Sounds like it was alot of fun. Looking forward to the OBCR in June. Also, just wondering what kind of advertising is going on? Are there any TV or radio spots for PS ? Being in Boston is why I ask. Thanks Updated On: 4/15/08 at 11:43 AM
Tiny, I was just a little saddened. To see that there numbers just keep falling. Hopefully once the noms come out. And they get there PR going. Things turn around for the show soon. I would just like them to recoup. Become a hit, and take the real on the road. First stop Boston please. j
Proposal: as much as PS is about “the real”, the theme of the show (inside the show, and the presentation/connection with audiences) is understanding.
What I am finding most engaging about Passing Strange these days is that it lets you come into it on any level you can; that is, it is built on this very highly intellectual level, with probably thousands of references that most people (including myself) aren’t going to get, or fully understand. And yet, there’s no pretension. Someone who has a fifth grade education would find something in it to connect with.
It doesn’t take itself too seriously. You have that wonderful moment of “Half the time, he didn’t know what the **** Mr. Franklin was talking about”, and then the lyrics/libretto (the two are inseparable) gives this glorious explanation about letting the music wash over you into the part that is MOST beautiful and “whether you get it or not/it’s got”.... when Youth is pondering leaving Amsterdam, he sings “paradise is a bore” until Stew finally asks him “You got it?” As much as you can make the argument that Youth searches and travels because he is looking for something, it’s the moment of epiphany, about learning about himself, that set him off. The only time where that isn’t the case, of course, is when he’s called back to LA, and even that moment comes AFTER Stew’s monologue about the pretzel man, the biggest “realization” moment of the musical.
So, the same way that Sunday in the Park (which, in my mind, is so similar to PS) is a) about reinvention and b) is a reinvention in itself, I think PS a) is about understanding and b) facilitates a new kind of understanding.
I feel like I'm one of the few people with a theater-related occupation that has to get up at 6 am to get to work... you late sleeping theater professionals! I raise my fist in anger in your general direction.
