While I was waiting to get into my dance class today I was reading the bulletin board and there was an article about Luis hanging up. It had ITH pictures on it too. Very cool.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
I will honestly cackle with glee if ITH wins Best Book. It's become such an easy, obvious target for naysayers. Just because the book is the weakest part of the show (and I agree it is) does not mean it's a weak book overall. It is, in fact, quite clever, and yes, moving at times. A lot of care and attention went into detail to ensure the authenticity of language and expressions. It's not perfect, but how many musicals are? Voters tend to vote in blocks (correct me if I'm wrong, but in the last 10 years, no show has won Best Musical and Score without also taking Book) and I think that ITH could very well take home that award.
Yes, but Ragtime also won Score that year. My point is that if a show wins Musical AND Score, it also wins Book. Lion King wasn't particularly praised for its Book and Score, but was deemed the best overall production (same thing happened with Jersey Boys). I'm not saying it can't happen that a show would win Musical and Score, but not Book, but it hasn't happened in the last 10 years (that I can recall).
ETA: ha, that was a mouthful. I'm not even sure what my point is, but...yeah :-p
The power was out for 3 hours in my entire neighborhood today (it just came on just 30 minutes ago). Good thing I was babysitting for 2 and a half hours of that time. When I got home it was so dark and creepy! My laptop still had power so I played "Blackout" from In the Heights for my dad and grandma. It was fun. They LOVED it.
Then the power came back on and all was right with the world. =]
Saw the show for the 5th time on Broadway tonight (took me madre) and it was amazing as EVER. Full cast, full energy, full emotion, full amazingness.
Seriously, I cried a lot in act 2, and I mean you'd think I wouldn't since I already know what's going to happen.
My mom had seen it off broadway and liked it then, but she LOVED it tonight. And she actually really liked the book and kept commenting on how good the story was. And I agree with chica, to be the weakEST part of that show is really not saying much at all because everything else is beyond amazing, so it can still be REALLY GOOD. Also I introduced my mom to luis before the show, so she paid a lot of attention to the dancing and she thought it was brilliant which it is... Yeah she had NOTHING bad to say about the show, and I agree because it is SO [titleofshow] (hope enough of you get that haha)
yay in the heights!!!!!!
EDIT: funny sightings / overheards
so the people behind me before the show kid: where is this located? dad: puerto rico city kid: what, isn't it in washington heights or somethign? dad: yeah, the puerto rican heights kid: where is that? dad: It's up in the bronx kid: are you sure? Me (i cant help but interrupt w/ these things): It's at the end of manhattan, right before the bronx, see on the set it says 181st street them: ooooh!
Also there was this woman (maybe in her 50s or 60s, a little stocky) sitting in the box seats who kept fanning herself with her playbill during the ENTIRE show but she was enjoying it, it seemed, and laughing at everything.
And finally my friend was sitting in lotto seats and she said the woman behind her or next to her like FREAKED out during the blackout scene and was like, "wait! what happened? but the stage lights are on? so it couldn't have been a fuse! what happened?" but then whe she hear "que passo" etc. was like "ooooh its part of the show."
gosh, i love people.
PS chica, i think im the opposite of you, i would be VERY upset if PS wins (and im scared it will) but would be very cool with Xanadu winning (despite my dislike for the whole cubby bernsteine campaign) though i'm praying for ITH... it REALLY deserves the award!

There was a *small* Heights backstage piece on the CW 11 NY news tonight- I can't link to it directly, but it's the second video choice right now at the link below... I liked the "Mandy Gonzalez has been with In the Heights since 2004..." voiceover right after Chris, seeing as how Chris was like the second person hired back in (2001? 2002?). And much love for the Janet/Andrea dance party, hee. CW11.com

^^ yeah, that one was great too. I am still in love with Karen Olivo's "fresh off the set of Designing Women" pic, lol. And I love the Dave & Busters toys- I suck at the claw game at Dave & Busters, but I am skilled at winning tickets and shopping in the store there.
Puerto Rico city...love it! Especially since W.H is a primarily Dominican neighborhood.
I don't want Xanadu to win. No offense to its fans, because I liked the show, very much, actually, but I thought it was kinda vacuous, and one note. It's funny, it's fun, but not great. Passing Strange at least has integrity. Updated On: 6/12/08 at 02:27 AM
well i think it has integrity because it knows how stupid it is, thats the whole point!
But thats a whole other thread, lets stick to ITH in here, because we all (i hope) are rooting for that to win.
My personal goal for the ITH is to take home 9 tonys... that isnt bitter towars SA is it? lol

attn those in the NYC area- it's in Spanish, but my tv just turned to channel 812 (I think it's called VME?), to a show called Viva Voz, which has an In the Heights piece on right now- they're interviewing Olga!
So far the only things I have understood are "In the Heights," "Abuela Claudia" and "37 Arts," lol, but I am still totally trying to watch. :)
I hate myself now when I saw the show it was the day before fore his Grandpa's Funeral and the stage door man said he had a plane to catch and I was mad/sad he didn't come out. I feel so bad.
So, it's almost been a week since I've seen this show.. AND I STILL LOVE IT! You'd think that I would get tired of listening to the score over and over, but nope.
Does anyone know if anything special is happening on the July 3rd show? I am about to buy tickets for it regardless, but it would be awesome if something were going on because it is right before the 4th.
Ahh, my sister just turned to that channel randomly and yelled for me! Aww, I wish I understood Spanish better, I need to figure out how to put subtitles on since I can read it better. They're interviewing Lin now, he is so cute.
Its not only in the New York area, either, I'm in Maryland and its on one of the public television channels. Updated On: 6/12/08 at 09:37 PM

TiVo says that Viva Voz "In the Heights" is going to be on again on 6/13 at 12:02am channel 812 VME. It was really great- even the small sliver that I understood- an interview with Olga, then one with Lin, intercut with b-roll footage from the 37 Arts days.
Oh, and so speaking of tiVo, TiVo says that Heights is performing on the Early Show on 6/16 from 7-9am, I don't think I knew that, so I'm just putting that out there...

I agree, Judas.. I just found the comment a bit odd.
The same people that voted for it, ("PS"), didnt think it had a chance, yet the poll had it winning?
Honestly, if "ITH" doesnt win, I would love to see "Xanadu" take it. I liked "PS", but think that both "Xanadu" and "ITH" are better overall productions.
