sporkgoddess, i had the same situation. My grandmother kept everything, i mean EVERYTHING. I used to make fun of her for some of the things she kept also the line "If something happened on this block Abuela was there" (or whatever it is) also pertains.

Lin-Manuel Miranda interview in this week's Time Out New York...
TONY: Is that why your T-shirt has a picture of a bodega coffee cup? Lin-Manuel Miranda: It’s for our baseball team; I threw out the first pitch at the Broadway Show League today. People are scared of the Latino cast as a baseball team. We thought of bringing in some 17-year-old Dominican ringer, saying he was in the ensemble.

I used to have a TONY subscription- then I canceled it because I resented how it was always telling me about 1000 fabulous things going on in the city, and I couldn't go to most of them. /threadjack :)
Just got back from the CD signing. What a blast !!!!!
Events like this one are the reason why I love NYC !!!
Alex introduced the cast and songs-
Mandy and Chris sang "When You're Home"- They sounded amazing !!!
Karen was then joined by Lin, Robin, and Andrea on "It Wont Be Long Now" -
Lin let the crowd join in when they sang "No Para....", and seemed like everyone that was there knew the lines !!!
Kudos to the staff at the Virgin Store, because I didnt know how orderly the signing part was going to be, but they did a great job. They were very nice and accomodating !! (especially since I had stroller duty and it was tough to navigate!!)
My daughter had a blast, and even got to hi-five Lin a few times (she hasnt stopped talking about it yet !!)
Yeah it was definitely a lot of fun. ANd I bought Andrea Burns's cd there for her to sign, I can't wait to have a listen.

hey. thanks for the review i was going to get there but i had online schoolwork to do for college before boarding the train. i passed by virgin yesterday and you had to buy the obcr to get into the signing line, which sucks for us who brought it pre-ordered, and they limted the amount of people. i got off the train at penn and stopped by i stood near the glass window and watched them get into their seats to sign stuff which was cool and no worries there will be alot of coverage both photo and video. they spread out janet, mandy and karen at the table and they were all trying to talk to one another. couldnt stay long because had to get to hairspray before 6 for a 7pm curtain call, i really wanted to go today to watch them perform, but it looked packed and lots of people watching them from the 2nd level and taking photos of the cast. little note janet dacal was taking pictures at the table with the cast and pictures of her cast members. i think she was either next to robin or seth. mandy was in between carlos gomez*her dad in the show) and christopher jackson(benny). cant wait to see all the photo coverage either later today or tommorow.
I feel like I'm showing up late for the party, but I just got the Cast Recording yesterday and LOVE it. I was hooked on the songs from the website, but the rest of the album is even better than I'd expected. My boss keeps giving me funny looks because I'm dancing in my computer chair (I'm wearing headphones, so she can't hear the music. lol.)
This is one show that I would love to see.
Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy
I can't go on tonight
aw testing, that is a great picture! I think the funniest thing that happened at the signing was when they were sound checking and Andrea wasn't there so Alex came in to do her part! loves it.

So, I think this is the first time I've seen this rumour in print (in a story about Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller)-
And this isn't all that Mr. McCollum and Mr. Seller have on their plates. Mr. McCollum declined to comment to The New York Sun on whether he and his fellow producers are negotiating film rights to "In the Heights," but, with its young cast and urban setting, the show would seem a natural for film. If it picks up several of the big awards on Sunday, you can expect to hear more very soon.
i really don't know how i feel about that. If it is true i dont think the time is right just yet. I mean I guess it could translate well to film but it would really really REALLY depend on who did it, and theres something about that show just seeing it live that makes it so amazing. Maybe a filmed stage version? I just don't know. Maybe I'm just being possessive, but to me the fact that it is on stage, on broadway now, is a part of what makes it so incredible.
PS Judas, welcome to our lovely little thread

i would love that like the club/ fireworks I can't picture on screen.
also If they do a movie movie than Lin better be in it... And Karen... and- I would love for the original cast to do it but they will probley cast a super star for one of the roles.
I would like to publicly voice that I am horrified at the idea of a film version, and even if I could foresee circumstances in which it could be done well, it's way too soon to be having those discussions. Wait and see what the show's staying power is first before rushing into spending millions on a movie version of something most people don't even know exists.
While, yes it would be good to bring this show to wider audiences, to get a positive representations of latinos on film, etc etc I fear this has the potential to go the Rent route. I don't think it will translate well to film. Some of the things that make ITH so enjoyable are theatre specific, and would need to be retooled for film. And we know how well that usually turns out...And then there's the inevitable big name casting, changing the storyline, and who knows that other atrocities.
We turn movies into musicals, and then when something original comes along, we turn it into a movie, and in the process it almost always loses a little of its soul. Why can't we leave well enough alone? Why focus on making musicals accessible to the masses by turning them into something else, instead of finding ways to get more people to go to the theatre? Why can't theatre in itself ever be enough? Updated On: 6/10/08 at 02:48 PM
"I fear this has the potential to go the Rent route." and yes i agree wholeheartedly with this statement.
