I figured I'd start a thread for us all to watch and bitch about the awards tonight.
Im excited!!!
I feel like no matter what I'm going to be disappointed...well, I'm already very disappointed with the nominations...but I'll be watching because it was a very exciting season! I didn't even bother watching last year, I had no interest whatsoever.
^ On the contrary, what a season to celebrate!
15 Musicals opened, new or revival, at least 10 were worth seeing.
11 New Plays and 9 play revivals opened, at least 8 or 9 worth seeing.
Remind me the last time we had such a vigorous season.
This season reminds me of 2005. It's rare we have a season with such an eclectic mix of spectacular revivals AND new shows.
Im still going to cross my fingers for Chita (even while seeing her in her show this afternoon for the 6th time) I'm going to be putting it out into the universe that she deserves to win tonight.
Kristin is winning though.
^I guess the troll forgot that he swore up and down over and over again that he blocked me.
I did block you. But since this will be the official tony award thread, I will have to endure you, Jordan/Mike/Matt/Wynbish.
This is the most exciting Tonys I can remember in years. So many great shows, so many good performances. I have my favorites, but I know that whoever winds, it will be because of talent and good work.
I'm very excited about the performances tonight, especially SOMETHING ROTTEN.
I think this season is very exciting! I can't wait for tonight! Last season was interesting because of Hedwig, but other than that, I did not find it that great. I loved the 2013 season though!
What a fantastic season this was. As Jordan said, not since 2005 has the group of Best Musical nominees been so varied and special. But I'd argue that not since 1994 has there been a group of Musical Revival nominees this strong!
We have the George Abbott musical, lovingly and energetically presented for a new audience (Damn Yankees in '94, On the Town '15); The charming and fizzy Roundabout revival of a musical not seen on Broadway since its original run (She Loves Me/On the Twentieth Century); and Lincoln Center Theatre bringing Rodgers and Hammerstein back to epic, gorgeous life including a "star is born" performance out of its featured actress nominee (Carousel/The King and I). I have my preference, but I would not be upset if any of these fine revivals won.
As a big fan of Fun Home and Hand to God, I'm prepared to probably be a little disappointed tonight, but I agree that this has been a fantastic season, and I'm very excited for the show tonight!
I also think this was a great season, as evidenced by the number of too close to call races.
It's going to be an exciting night!
my girlfriend knew Hand to God was my favorite show of the past year so in honor of rooting for them tonight she made a Tyrone cake! and of course it's a devils food cake inside!

Do we know yet when the creative awards will be announced? Also will score and book be off the telecast again?
^ Score and book are off-telecast. They'll be announced during the Pre-show.

Wait. When did they announce they're not airing the score?? I am surprised since Sting is nominated. Just as they televised the score for the year when Lauper was nominated, I assumed they would air this year's. They usually never miss an opportunity to exploit a celebrity "sighting" on the broadcast. Interesting....
I think Lauper was heavily favored to win that year (and of course, she did) so it made sense to feature that category on the air. This year, Sting isn't the frontrunner for Score, though an upset is certainly possible, so the producers likely weren't interested in highlighting it.
I am disappointed book and score won't be televised. This year could easily mark the first year a musical solely written by women takes both writing trophies, and it would have been nice to see that aired.

This has been a spectacular broadway musical season and I have savored every bit of it
and 2015-16 looks very promising as well!!!
Got my dvr ready and excited to hear peoples feedback on the actual awards and performances....
setting intention for this thread to be positive, respectful and celebratory toward all involved with bringing us such rich and diverse entertainment...
IT'S THE FREAKN' TONYS!!!!!
TONY TONY TONY......
It is going to be very difficult waiting for the delayed west coast broadcast. I am going to have to lock my computer and phone in my safe so I am not tempted to cheat and see who won.
Count me as another that loved this season. I'm excited about tonight!
I'm excited to see Jeanine Tesori win her first Tony even if it is during the break, she definitely deserves it with all the great shows she's made.

What shows do people think will be in the Tommy Tune tribute? I've heard that they're including three so I'd assume Best Little Whorehouse (became a popular movie), Nine (best musical winner) and maybe The Will Rogers Follies, but it's hardly a household name.
I'm sure something from Grand Hotel will be in there.
^ GRAND HOTEL has that extraordinary Tonys clip of "Let's Take a Glass Together". Can't imagine they'd skip over that one. MY ONE AND ONLY showed Tommy at his Tune-iest as a performer. Household names be damned.
