I am beyond sad for Raul. I really thought that was a no-brainer.

My mother was behaving like a healed Pentacostal because Christine Ebersole won.
I thought i already posted but couldnt find it so if i double post im sorry. But first im done crying for raul i rant on the other thread. His performance the best followed by a wonderful performance by fantasia who i never was a fan of. Im not really a fan of her or the show but it was a great performance. I also love SA with all my being so im glad it dominated. Glad CE won but thought Audra would steal for a second after the fiasco and travesty that was leading actor in a musical. Lea Michele still blows my mind even after her performance and am still sad she wasnt nominated. And finally, I only got 4 awards wrong: lead actor musical, featured actress play, choreography and book of a musical.

Within hours of its final curtain Sunday, "Journey's End," R.C. Sherriff's anti-war drama won the revival play award as producer Bill Haber came on stage with the entire cast to accept the war.
Which one???
Aw. That's what happens when you give up acting to produce. But he's a sweet guy. Let him be fat and bearded.
Did David Hype Pierce admit that he was gay by thanking his partner?????? He was always rumored to be gay and was artfully dodging that question all the time! Did he finally answer the question?
Geez, I knew SA had a ton of producers..but did they all need to be one stage, LOL.
Usher next time you are asked to present an award.. Practice learning the nominees names. Ben Vereen tripped over the names a bit.
The Spring Awakening performance...yeah Mama who bore me indeed. The Medley, "Totally Sucked." Whichever girl in the first part that shrieks her way through it should be turned down.
Julie White and Mary Louise Wilson they were highlights for me. I loved the look on Julie White's face when they called her name.
Bill. T. Jones..I think he stole some of my gayness with his prancing up to the stage. Dunno, I'll look for it later.
It wasn't a boring as many have said it may be. I found it moved versus stalling. Next year, Angela Lansbury for host!
I agree... my entire family watched Raul with dropped jaws, while we just ran to the bathroom during Curtains. Nothing against Pierce but Raul has been gang raped by the committee

MTVMANN, I believe David publicly came out a few days ago.
Yeah, was it just me, or did the Spring Awakening Medley just seem way too "let's try and fit as much as we can into our time slot as possible".
What's wrong with just doing one song?
If they could say bitch, why didn't they just sing The Bitch of Living?
I don't know, I'm happy for David. Raul was great... and I adore him... but it's not like David is crappy. Also, I thought he gave a great speech. I don't know why Raul would need validation. He knows people love him, I'm sure.
Once again... I really want Julie White to marry me... or just be my friend. I was watching some stuff yesterday from "The Little Dog Laughed" as well as her doing short interviews about the Tonys and I knew that if she won, the speech would be great. I was not let down.
"Spring Awakening" can go shoot itself in the head since, you know, life's such a bitch to live. Gah.
DHP came out a week or so ago. It was even in this week's issue of Time:
David Hyde Pierce, best known for playing snooty Niles Crane on Frasier, has come out, via his publicist. Laments Manhattan blog GAWKER: "It's hard to believe that the man who played one of sitcomdom's most effete heterosexuals may, in fact, dig dudes."
They're nice guys. I used to run into them when they were living at the Phillips Club, during his run in SPAMALOT. He and Brian have two Wheaton Terriers, Emma and Mabel. I have a basset hound. While your dogs are checking each other out, it's easy to engage just about anyone in conversation, even Kathleen Turner.
Julie White played Nadine on "Grace Under Fire" right?????? I think that is where I recognize her face from.
I'm really happy for David but really sad for Raul all at the same time. But I'm really happy for David. And I know that there are so many Spring Awakening haters, but I'm certainly glad about their wins. I'm definitely not the only one either or else they wouldn't have won so many things. I know that considering The Producers and Spamalot, it's not really accurate to say how good a show is by bragging about Tony wins. But I do think that the best musical won this year. Congrats to all.

I hope they engrave Raul Esparza on DHP's Tony. : )
I just feel like if Raul didn't win a Tony for THAT. What the hell does it take for this man to win a Tony. I can't imagine Raul topping his performance in COMPANY any time soon - or getting material as strong anytime soon.

This is the first year when there isn't at least one number that I want to watch again and again. I liked the SA medley, but if I hadn't seen the show I'd probably be scratching my head and going "What the HELL was that?!" It just reinforced some of the sterrotypes for those who haven't seen it, since it featured both of the "frantic" numbers...but I guess it was the best choice under the circumstances.
The others just looked dusty ans stale, sorry. Personally, it was a super-exciting year since I have seen more shows than ever and have some personal connections with SA and love the thing. But the telecast...zzzzzzzzzzzz...
First off, the show was damned near perfect. One of the best awards shows in recent memory. That said, DHP winning over Raul is obscene; possibly the biggest grand larceny in Tony history. As much as I like DHP, that award belongs to Raul. What a major disappointment!

ljay, I know what you mean. Granted, Raul is brilliant, so you never know how he will transform his future material, but this was just his role.
Its inevitable, but I just hope it doesnt upset him too much (yeah right) - I want him to keep doing what he's doing
Raul is brilliant, I personally feel that was 'his' role. But I'm very pleased David won the Tony, he deserved it. After 25 years of performing on and off in theatre I think it was his turn.
Raul's performance was definitely iconic. But this is what happens when David Hyde Pierce is inexplicably snubbed for Spamalot. I thought he was the best part of that show. Raul will get his. And when he does, he'll have the entire house on its feet when he goes up to accept the award. That said, I do believe David Hyde Pierce is giving a flawless performance in Curtains, so I'm happy for him.

The manic jumping around and "blah blah blahs" of Spring Awakening's performance really made the evening for me. Best Score and Best Choreography for sure....
I love the sarcasm of scorned theatre fans. (and I totally agree.)

"but Raul has been gang raped by the committee"
- Wicked, I hope you realize how offensive that comment was. It's fine to be upset that a favorite didn't win, but that choice of words is wrong on so many levels.
On another note, I'd interested to see how much money Reidel won tonight on Pierce.
