Just a reminder, The Producers is released on DVD today. I really liked it when I saw in theatres, but I find that it works better on a tv screen where it's not so huge. Nathan Lane really shines in this film.
The deleted scenes are worth checking out. "The King of Broadway" is wonderful and I wish it were included in the film. The outtakes are also worth a look, some of them are genuinly funny.
The film itself looks a lot better on DVD, colorwise. I remember thinking it looked washed out and bland in the theatres, but on DVD, it looks great.
So, check it out!

I liked it a lot as well! Saw it 3 times in the movies and I am waiting for the mail to arrive from Amazon.com.
I haven't seen the show or the new movie, but I just bought it at BEST BUY during lunch, and I can't wait to see it when I get home.
I cant wait to get this! I saw it in the theater and loved it.
Intend to try & take go back & forth between the DVD & tape & try & make a version including King Of Broadway for myself
Fear not, I will buy it but I just hate the thought of the movie with that key number missing. This, to me , was a boneheaded move on the creative teams part when the movie was cut

Truly, it's like reading the poetry of William Burroughs some times.
I got the DVD today as well. Despite its flaws, I think this movie is hilarious, and it's definatly something I can watch if I ever need a good laugh.
I like the deleted scenes, especially "The King of Broadway". I really think this number should not have been cut because it introduces Max to the viewers, and gives foundation to the character. I think they should have kept it and cut "You Never Say Good Luck On Opening Night", which could have been re-written as dialogue.
I also liked the scene at the Astor Bar. I kinda wish they had kept that in the movie as well. It could of gone right between "Heil Myself" and part 2 of Springtime.
I laughed harder at this film than any other in years! I loved it, despite what the critics say!
I don't even think I ever stopped laughing when I saw it at the theater. My mouth sure did hurt afterwords though.
Yeah my stomach was so sore after from all the laughs. My throat as well. It was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
The DVD rocks, i love the deleted scenes and outtakes!! I love this film!
First off, I just wanna say that Roger Bart and Gary Beach deserve to get any role they want in the future. To me, they made the movie. Bravo, guys! Bravo!
Ok, now to the review.
I COMPLETELY agree with the critics when they said that it was like taking the stage show and throwing it on the big screen. Now, that in itself is not bad . . . but the whole time I was watching it, I thought I was watching a Disney made-for-tv movie (Like, MUSIC MAN, CINDERELLA, etc). That being said, I liked it better than the original movie. While watching the original with Gene and Zero, I laughed a few times but watching this movie, I laughed basically the whole time (a big thanks to Gary and Roger). Again, my main problem is that it wasn't translated well for the movies. I understand it was supposed to mimic the old MGM musicals, but even the old musicals did not have that high level of camp in it where it did not seem like a MOVIE, but a stage SHOW.
Now, to the songs . . . I like a few of them, but I thought the songs were the weakest part of the musical. Even listening to the cast recording when it first came out, I thought the cast recording was sub par, besides a few songs. "I Wanna Be A Producer" is such a great song and if I ever get to do the audition rounds, that is the song I am going to do.
ACTORS: Lane and Broderick were said to be amazing on stage, but while watching the movie, I kept seeing them as cheap imitations for Zero and Gene. If I never saw the original, it would have been better, but alas . . . I saw the original. Uma Thurman was pretty good as Ula but she did not shine as bright as I hoped she would, but again it was pretty good. Will Ferrel was . . . well . . . Will Ferrel. Again, as I have stated numerous times, Roger Bart and Gary Beach were BRILLIANT. BRILLIANT, I TELL YOU!!!
Now, I wish they would have kept "King of Old Broadway" in. In fact, that was my favorite musical number. Reminded me of NEWSIES for some odd, strange reason (in regards to the choreography and the way it was shot).
All-in-all, I am glad that I bought it and will be watching it many times in the future. But, I see why it didn't do too well in the box office.
