The best thing that could happen to Chicago is to have another fire and burn down

A new low for a once great show.

Not to mention that their gross isn't jumping very much since she is in the show...at least not as much as the producers would have wanted from the stunt casting.

Saw the show a few months ago (with Pedi as Mama...and she was the best part of it, she really nailed it). Its certainly seen better days and I wish they wouldn't run it like a machine. The ensemble was sleepwalking through what seemed like a routine job to them. ANYWAY - that clip of Wendy - she's not Lillias White but they made her the best she could be with probably a very small rehearsal period. She's never gonna win a Tony but it wasn't the embarrassment people are making it out to be. I give credit to the music director, everything Wendy did in that clip is exactly how a non-singer with a big personality should be delivering that song.
That all being said - Christine Pedi certainly delivered the "Broadway" quality and I hope they bring her back after this stint. She was great in the role and the best part of it last month when I saw the show again.

And this is reason to call for the burning down of the CITY of Chicago, one of the best, if not THE best, theater cities in the country?
No argument about the substance of your post, just the title.
You burn down the city, you burn down Steppenwolf, Looking Glass, Victory Gardens, The Goodman and Chicago Shakespeare, all of which have won a Regional Theater Tony. Taht's FIVE. The next closest city (San Fran) has two.

She bitched about having to wear a pants suit, but that pants suit was the best part of the entire "performance".

Do we not have video of Pedi in the show? I mean there are tons of clips of her singing the songs as other people...I wouldn't mind hearing her sing it as Pedi.

It is what it is. It actually is a lot more interesting than those copycat Mama's they have been casting thru the years.

This has already been discussed on here. To. Death.

Raised on Musicals -- no one called for anything to happen to the CITY of Chicago. Actually, no one called for for anything to happen to anything. They were discussing what they perceived to be a new low for a show. That's all.
Try not to read into things that just are not there.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Well on the bright side, at least the audience for her talk show didn't start chanting Tony! Tony!

Wicked, it has been discussed to death but no one has such a clever thread title so that just had to be remedied.

Dramamama611, I read enough of your posts to know that you are pretty much with it. But go back and read the thread title again and tell me that it doesn't relate (or seem to relate) to the Chicago fire of 1871, which burned down virtually the entire city.
What else do the words "another fire and burn down mean"? What other fire was the OP referring to?

I wasn't going to respond, but now I have to do so. The title is my attempt to make an allusion, even though, to you, it might be a poor one. You, Raised on Musicals, must have a jaundice fundamentalist perspective in the spheres of religion, politics, and economics and art not to recognize my exercise regarding the MUSICAL Chicago.

Watched the clip. She has no business complaining. As she has no business being on a Broadway stage. The upside is that they have finally reached the bottom of the barrel in casting and this show should (finally) be put to bed by the end of summer.
Nice is different than good.

"Minneapolis has three: Guthrie (1982), Children's Theater (2003), Jeune Lune (2005)"
Yep, good catch Renart. I missed Minneapolis, sorry.
And behindthescenes2, when you say that I "must have a jaundice (sic) fundamentalist perspective in the spheres of religion, politics, and economics and art not to recognize my exercise regarding the MUSICAL Chicago", you are really drawing quite a conclusion based on no knowledge at all. I mean, I didn't call you stupid or ignorant because you posted something that appeared to be both. But I'm happy for you that you think you know so much about my outlook towards religion, politics, economics and art" based on a post about a title of a post. Quite the ego ya got there.
And remember, I said that I had no argument with the substance of your post, just the title.

Raised on Musicals, I get that you don't have a problem with the subject or the position of the post, just the title. You just don't agree that it is an allusion, and based upon a literal reading of your reply to the post, you think it is a plea to burn down the city of Chicago and all of its glorious theaters. If you understand the definition of allusion, you will realize that I was....making a joke. I have no ego regarding this or you. I read your response to the title as literal, just as you took the title. Have a nice day, and I mean that literally.
