Funny how you used Vincentelli's signature word ("ugh"
to describe her. I LOVE me some Vincentelli! Nice to see Musto up here too.

So basically every theater critic that's been on their panels before.

With the exception of Patrick Pacheco-- the only one I genuinely enjoy listening to (though I'm sure he'll be there at some point too).

Say what you will about Riedel, he has a great sense of humor, and because of that the show is entertaining to watch.
Plus, when paired with Haskins, who's more serious, they make a good combo.
Vincentelli, on the other hand, lacks any kind of funny bone. She comes across as morose. She has definite opinions about what she sees, but she's not able to articulate how she arrived at those opinions. I find that very frustrating. I was hoping she wouldn't be one of the new cohosts. Let's see how she does.

Vincentelli is an old grump devoid of any personality, or at least that's how she comes off.
I know he's unpopular here, but I enjoyed Riedel on this show. His columns were another matter, but he had the personality to host a talk show.

I only watched one of these episodes (the Tony Awards preview for 2015) and Elisabeth Vincentelli seemed more than fine to me. But then I agreed with a lot of her opinions and even the ones I didn't quite agree with I understood why she'd come to that conclusion.

Vincentelli is dreadful. Not only her opinions, but her entire demeanor.

I'm glad Jan Simpson from Broadway and Me is in the mix too. She doesn't have a high profile, which I guess she's raising now a bit. I like her blog a lot. I used to work with her years ago, and she was well respected.

Yes, Elizabeth is dreadful, with a long face and bad attitude. But love Jesse and Michael Musto, and hope Patrick will be on from time to time.
Does anyone have the skinny of on what happened to Reidel? He sounds pretty angry.

Ugh, cannot stand Vincentelli. I don't mind the others. I know people are mixed on her too, but I think Susan Haskins should team up with Jennifer Ashley Tepper with the idea of passing it off to her down the road.

Would rather have had Pacheco than Musto.

Riedel brought a sense of humor to the show, and kept it flowing. I will miss him. Pacheco is very interesting to listen to and enjoyable; I wish he was on the list as well. Musto is just 'ehh'. Not familiar with the others.
Too bad they don't have LuPone as a host! She'd be very good....

Good thing Theater Talk doesn't have to worry about ratings; this would send them right into the tank. Say what you will about his columns, but Riedel just works as a talk show host. Right personality, right sense of humor. I'll miss him for sure.

I don't know why people are falling over themselves praising Reidel's sense of humor. Cackling every thirty second does not a sense of humor make. Did he ever say anything quick or witty? Ever?
The show is a billion times better now. Regarding the co-hosts, I quite like Jesse Green, Jan Simpson, Michael Musto, and Jason Zinoman. The only disaster was Donna Hanover.

My first choice would have been Joan Rivers. She was on the panel one time and the show came alive like never before.

Joan was a live wire, and she truly loved theater. I really miss her.

Reidel was fine when he wasn't dominating the show. He knows his stuff and when he is wrong he admits it. And he does have a great and sometimes twisted sense of humor.
I really enjoyed Jan Simpson. I would be fine with her being the permanent cohost. The two worked well together.

I think the real opportunity (and I hope they exploit it routinely) is marrying the co-host to the guest(s). I recognized the value in this when Jason Zinoman did the Guirgis episode. None of the other co-hosts (much less Riedel) could get close to the knowledge base he brought.

Does anyone know what, exactly, happened with Michael Riedel? Supposedly he "chose" to leave to "put more focus on his column as well as his hosting duties for the On the Town radio show," but I'd like to believe he had a screaming bitch-fight with Susan at Bar Centrale, which resulted in charges being brought against him by a waiter who got punched in the face by Riedel in the resulting crossfire, leaving Susan screaming at him as the cops dragged him down 46th Street, "You know NOTHING about the theater, you little worm! Not what I call theater, true theater, ART. You know nothing and NO ONE LIKES YOU, NO ONE HAS EVER LIKED YOU! For twenty-five years, they've watched this show because of me, me, ME!"

I'm struggling to picture a scene like this at Bar Centrale. ![]()
