I love the outside of the Hirschfeld, despite it's location.
Inside: Majestic, Palace & Broadhurst

A click for life.

"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"
lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

I realize it's something of a brown elephant these days, but in the twenty years ago "The Phantom of the Opera" played beautifully at the Auditorium. I mean, it was in a 19th century opera house!
Most shows are overwhelmed by the space, but for concerts and ballet the sightlines and acoustics are great, and the architecture is non pareil.

The new Ellie Caulkins Theater (Formally The Auditorium) in Denver. Even though it is too big and the sound tends to suck at times, I love The Buell Theater. I also love the Space Theater at the DCTC. I will see anything there.
In New York, I like the Gershwin and I think The Atlantic is pretty cool.

I have not yet had the chance too see a lot of beautiful, ornate, broadway sized theatres, but the most amazing theatre I have ever been in, and been amazed by:
The Paramount in Seattle

The Palace. It was my first Broadway theatre. I sat in the Balcony, in the first row, and I went to the bathroom, which was 1 toliet and a sink. And all I could think about waiting for Legally Blonde to start was "Judy Garland was here!" "I went to the bathroom, where people went to see Judy Garland" "Ooh! Beauty and the Beast was here"
Also, the lobby of the Al Hirschfeld is beautiful. And I love the location. It seemed like a nice and quiet street. (Mind you I was there to see a performance on a Friday afternoon at 2.00)

Posted: 2/12/09 at 9:47pmI really love the Gershwin on the inside. I just love how they decorated the whole theatre to set the mood for Wicked. Also, I love the Palace. I hate the lobby at the Nederlander. I'm pretty sure it got re done and it's probably fine now, but it was so cluttery when RENT was playing there.

I think what I love about the Gershwin is the lobby and the path to the house. It just feels like you're on the way to an adventure... if that makes sense.
Interior goes to the Hirschfeld. I love the sloping shape of the boxes.
Overall, Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo. It's been mentioned MANY times on this board in previous threads. I love going home to walk in it. The lobby is beautiful, the hallways to the mezz, the colors inside the house... love it all.

Posted: 2/13/09 at 12:16amI like the Al Hirschfeld (formerly the Martin Beck) both inside and out. I especially like the way it fits right into the old New York neighborhood with the smaller buildings. The interior lobbies have many fine framed theatre memorabilia pieces. I think the most beautiful exterior of Broadway Theatres are the Lyceum and the Belasco. The two most beautiful Broadway type houses in San Francisco are the Curran and the Geary Theatres. The Geary houses ACT but also has hosted first rate musicals. The Curran is our pre-Broadway tryout theatre of choice. Wicked started here prior to Broadway as did many other hit shows. It's interior and exterior are truly beautiful. Both theatres are intimate houses, the Curran around 1,400 and the Geary around 1,200. They have both undergone multi-million dollar refurbishing. Only drawbacks are the tiny restrooms that are in their basements.
