I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Tonight's crowd was the most energetic crowd I've ever attended a show with. A lot of cheering and clapping, and I do mean A LOT. Certain times, I missed the things they said on stage because of the cheering.
I didn't see the show off-Broadway. Everyone seemed to love the show. It's a show with a lot of theatre references. If you get all the references, you will love the show. If you know nothing about the theatre, then this is not the show for you. Only drag your theatre-geek friends to see this with you.
The four + Larry were just great. They all got teary-eyed at curtain call. I wish them the best. And may I say Heidi Blickenstaff..what a voice.
By the way, I was gonna get some sushi after the show, but I got a turkey burger and fries, and instead of a diet Sprite, I got 2 Stellas.
If you get all the references, you will love the show. If you know nothing about the theatre, then this is not the show for you. Only drag your theatre-geek friends to see this with you.
That's exactly what I worried about, and what I still worry about, when they announced the transfer: what is the audience for [title of show]? How can it possibly survive on a Broadway where you MUST cater to tourists if you are to survive?

I just got back from the first preview and it was more amazing than I could have ever hoped. Although an avid fan of the cast album, I had never seen the show before, and the book was an absolute delight.
The Lyceum was giving a lot of love back to the five performers tonight. Larry got VERY sustained entrance applause, as did the other four actors. It seemed that every line received laughter and/or applause. Heidi especially got a huge reaction after "A Way Back to Then."
After "Nine People's Favorite Thing" there was a good two minute standing ovation. You could really tell that Heidi was trying to hold back tears.
At the curtain call everyone seemed pretty choked up and appreciative of the audience response. It could have been a warmer welcome to Broadway.
The stagedoor was crazy. People brought flowers and gifts for everyone, and they must not have expected so many people there because the barricades were not set up in an effective manner. All in all an awesome night!
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
Oh. My. God. The most amazing experience I have ever had in a broadway theater. Not just the wonder of the performances/material. But the amount of love and energy in the audience was just astounding. There was huge entrance applause first for Larry, then Jeff and Hunter and finally Susan and Heidi. The audience was so loud (in a good way) through out, with a seemingly never-ending Standing Ovation at the end of "Nine People's Favorite Thing" Everyone in the show was so fantastic. The show has been updated to include everything that's happened to the [tos] gang since of-broadway. And there are some additions to the songs, include sung through bits of parts that were spoken in "Original Musical" and "What Kind of Girl is She." After the show the crowd at the stagedoor was huge, when Susan walked out she looked so stunned and she Shouted "What the F*CK?" I met all of the cast plus Larry and Michael and they were all so kind and wonderful. It was hilarious, some passing tourists saw the crowd and got excited going "Who are they waiting for, it must be some one famous" Then they saw Heidi and started screaming "OH MY GOD ITS JENNA BUSH" my father was trying to correct them but they were convinced it was Jenna Bush. All in All, it was an amazing night and I wish the show and its cast the best.
The show was magnificent tonight. The audience was incredible. The additions they have made for Broadway have been smoothly built into the book, and the show was just a total joy.
Donna Murphy was sitting directly behind me, and she was in tears at the end of the show. Stephanie J. Block was there as well, also teary-eyed after the final curtain call. And Seth Rudetsky was there with his boyfriend.
I wish these guys a healthy, happy run of what is a thrilling Broadway show that will for sure entertain MANY happy audiences.

Did Jeffy get applause removing his shirt? (dumb question) I can't wait to see what they have done for Broadway, A WAY BACK TO THEN is pure genius. LOVE this show!
Jeffy and Heidi got a huge applause for removing their shirts.

BenKaye, when you exit the theater go to the right and go through the set of glass doors (the hallway behind the Virgin Megastore) on your right onto 46th street and make a right. The stage door is the first doorway past the parking garage on your right.

StephenSondheimWOO & WannaBeAFoster captured the euphoria perfectly. Lots of tears at the conclusion of "Nine People's Favorite Thing" ...Susan held it together but I thought Jeff & Hunter were going to lose it. I'm so proud of these guys.
And I loved the sustained applause Larry recieved. He doesn't get enough [tos] love! He seemed overwhelmed with surprise and delight at his reception.
Heidi did take off her shirt. She was wearing a red bra.
And Hunter...snif...snif...shaved his chest. Snif. And it was positively luxuriant at the invited dress two days ago! ** snif*** wimper***
