Wow, so they actually managed to keep the opening scene with the weavers in the new show? Does it make any sense to the new audiences? For those who have seen both shows are there any major deletions in Tsypin's SET DESIGN (which for us was the paramount reason to buy a ticket first time around)?
I saw it Sunday, and it pretty much follows the plot of the first movie. Visually, it was stunning, but it was littered with a few "what the hell?!?!" moments.

The show starts with Peter giving reading an essay on the Myth of Arachne. Once he introduces her, he disappears and we go right into the old weaving scene.
To me the weaving scene is the one moment in the show where the stunning visuals, music, and story all come together. Too bad that only happens in the first five minutes.

It's posts like this that make me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon. Along with all the grammar- and spelling-related pedantry. But I do learn a lot by lurking here, much of it from those same posters, so I probably shouldn't complain too much.
Getting briefly back on topic, does anyone know if the orchestrations have been changed? I remember them sounding great independently but getting rather tiring over the course of the show.
I don't know what you've heard SongandDanceman since you haven't seen it. But inside the theater I didn't notice much of a change to the orchestrations. They still sound awful and muddled. And I once again left the show thinking Jennifer Damiano can't sing. Which I know isn't true since I've seen her in other shows. But she sounds awful in this. Reeve Carney DID improve though and at least this time I could understand the lyrics he was singing.
I dont need to have 'seen' it to of heard many recordings of both versions. The orchestrations sound different on quite a few of the songs. Turn Off The Dark is very new, Boy Falls From the Sky had new ones etc. Damiano sounds fine to me on the recordings, Reeve sounds brilliant now in my opinion, i love how rock and unpolished his voice is
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
That's kind of my point Songanddance. In spite of the recordings you're hearing...they do not sound any different in the theater. Except for Boy Falls From the Sky like I mentioned earlier. And that has more to do with Reeve improving than anything else.
The first couple of times seeing the show i thought Jenn sounded very weak. After seeing it this weekend, i can say that she sounds amazing and it seems that she is very comfortable now.
I saw it Saturday....she sounded worse than the first time I saw it. In some songs you could barely hear her. That duet they have on the bridge was borderline embarassing. She also looks like she's having absolutely no fun up there but I can't say I blame her.
The music is so unmemorable I don't even remember which song Turn off the Dark is. The only song that stuck with me at all after the show was Boy Falls From the Sky (which I've already said was improved for the better)..and maybe the riff from Rise Above. The performance on Idol last night was representative of what you hear in the theater. And song....notice how I've been able to disagree with you here without personally insulting you once? Isn't that something you complain about a lot? Updated On: 5/26/11 at 09:37 AM
Actually no, the performance was not representative of what you hear in the theatre...ALL of what Bono was singing is not in the show. The arrangment/orchestration was completely different as well. In the show, there is a B section in the song with Arachne singing a completely different melody line. And for the record, I think the theatrical version is pretty beautiful.
To me the song never takes off. You keep waiting for it to go somewhere and it never does. It sounds muddled and boring...just like it does in the theater. It's unmemorable. I think people that are saying it's completely different sounding in the show are wildly exaggerating. None of the the changes to the music were that drastic. Except for the addition of "Freak Like Me" which is one of the most dreadful songs in the show. So I guess what I'm trying to say if you saw it the first time and hated the music you're not going to go back now and think "wow this sounds totally different now I LOVE it!" And if you think the song sucked on Idol last night you're probably gonna think it sucks in the show too. Updated On: 5/26/11 at 12:44 PM
Yes the lyrics are different. I'm aware they made changes to the melody...but in my opinion that is not a DRASTICALLY different song that what is performed on stage at the Foxwoods every night.
