Ok so totally new verses and big changes in the melody and structure of a song aren't drastic changes now... Your blind hate for this show is becoming embarassingly ridiculous. You don't like this score and anything about this show fair enough, I think everyone got the message, but sorry it seems that many disagree with you. Deal with it and stop acting like you are preaching the truth.

Oh whatever. My hate for Spiderman isn't blind. There is a lot to hate. And I have had said positive things about the changes they've made in the second version. But I think the people that are saying the music is DRASTICALLY from the first incarnation to the second are exaggerating. And who are these many posters you speak of? I count about 3.
I've made it no secret that Spiderman is without a doubt the worst musical I've ever seen on Broadway. I've also said this version is better than the first...but it's still pretty awful. And to me the improvements they made in the book just shine a light on how bad the music is. Of course that's MY opinion. Which is kind of the point of a Broadway message board isn't it? Trolls are all the same : when you point out the fact that they are trolling they always say : "b... b... but that's just my opinion".

Repeating the same opinion over and over again without adding anything new is just blatantly trolling and flooding. The problem is just that for whatever stupid and puerile reasons you just hate this show and can't accept the fact that some people disagree with you and just want to convince everyone how awful it is. Don't you have better things to do that just repeating again and again exactly the same negativity? That's plain ridiculous.

But I think the people that are saying the music is DRASTICALLY from the first incarnation to the second are exaggerating.

I remember thinking the same thing when it was said about The Pirate Queen (which ran in the same theatre, coincidentally). They went on and on about the MASSIVE changes to the book and score from the Chicago tryout. Like it was a completely different show. The changes were minimal and the show was mostly the same. Now, the book changes to Spider-Man do sound like a vast improvement, but other than cutting Deeply Furious, I'm not convinced the score has been vastly improved. When I saw the show, the score seemed almost an afterthought. I liked a couple of tunes okay, but I can't recall a single melody from the show.

Yeah I'm a troll who's been posting on this board since it's been created. When did you join? Oh right, this month. And I've been able to express my opinion without calling anyone tone deaf or ridiculous.

The fact that people have heard the 2.0 version sure is interesting.

If anyone would like to be a Good Samaritan, I sure would appreciate it...

Hi, I'm really interested seeing this show, but I'm having some trouble figuring out what would be better seats...
-left side orchestra Row S seats
-front center orchestra Row B

I heard that maybe orchestra seating is not the best, especially up front...would row s give a better view of the aerial stunts as well as the stage? or would the following be better?

- (2nd)balcony box seats
-front row, center (2nd)balcony or front row side (2nd) balcony

Unfortunately Flying Circle seats are not an option for me. Would much appreciate the help. Thank you.

Row S gives you an awesome overall view.

That said, being center is best. I sat row S far left (with rush tickets) to Spider-man 1.0. From that angle some of the screen/projection effects didn't line up, and you could see stunt doubles waiting in the wings. It was actually hilarious

Having just seen the performance on the American Idol final, all I can say is Wow how boring was that song!

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Technically that song isn't even in the show. The bulk of it anyway was something you never hear in the show. Only Reeve's Rise Above bit is in, but not in that arrangement.

@aoihime -- I sat to the right side of the 2nd Balcony when I saw 2.0 version of the show a week ago. I was front row and sat in seats 2 and 4 (I think) and it was where Spider-Man lands and takes off several times during the show. You can see the stage perfectly from there as well as all the aerial sequences.

Sitting center in the 2nd Balcony is also fine and from what I saw, the box seats seemed to be good seats as well.

My suggestion is to get tickets for anywhere from the first four rows of the 2nd balcony or the Box seats.

I rushed the show and sat front row for this show. It's my 4th time seeing the show. I'm not like some huge Spiderman fan or something, but all my friends that came into town wanted to see it, or I got free tickets, so alas, I found myself at the show again.

I think the show is def. better than it was. The visuals are still amazing, and I think the show runs smoother. I saw the "2.0" version when it first opened back, and they've done some little changes here and there (like adding in some flying in Act 1, which needed some of it ).

To me the new show is almost too wordy. All of Peter's monologue-ish type bits to the audience should be in song. It's a musical! He shouldn't be saying like "oh, I love Mary Jane, but I don't know if I'm doing the right thing" blah blah blah. He should sing that in a song! The book writer shouldn't have to make up for the lack of lyrical depth in a song. Why not work together?

The cell phone bit with the Green Goblin has to got to go. It's funny, and Paige is really great in it, but it just stops the show dead. The scene ends with an awkward blackout, and then it's hard to rev the show back up.

There are just some really poor directing moments. Like with the pumpkin bomb, and the entire beginning of Act 2 with the "Sinister 6." That song is AWFUL. It needs to be cut. Actually, I'd say just cut all of the Goblin's songs. He doesn't need to sing. And you can't rhyme "Manhattan" with "Flatten" more than once, Bono.

I finally saw Reeve Carney. I thought made a great Peter Parker. He had the right nerdy thing down, and his voice was fine. He chickened out of the high note at the end of "Boy Falls From The Sky." Also, he seemed scared sh*tless when he was being flown around the theater at the end. Has he been out of the show a lot lately? He seemed a little shaky in a lot of the flying aspects (Bouncing off the Walls, etc).

I don't think the songs are all bad. Peter and Mary Jane's songs are good, and "Rise Up" is a stand-out. But all of the chorus bits are AWFUL. As mentioned "Freak" has got to go. It's AWFUL. And just laughable. The "Spiderman" song is awful too. Just bad lyrics, not memorable, and just plain awful. The show needs a "theme" for Spiderman. We should leave the theater singing Spiderman's theme. For example, in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" there was a theme for them that kept popping up, and eventually resulted in the title song. We need something like that here. Just something memorable that you will leave singing.

I think the orchestrations are beautiful. They really wrote some killer underscoring for the scenes. It's spooky when it needs to be and monumental when it needs to be. But the lyrics/melodies don't live up to it.

On a side note: Why did they get rid of James Franco's character from the movie? I think it would have cool to have a love triangle story line going on with his character and Peter and Mary Jane. There needs to be some tension in the Peter/Mary Jane story line. I mean basically you know they're going to get together. In the movies it's never quite sure. We need that, so there's some tension throughout the show and it would give Mary Jane some more depth.

From what I understand, the only show that Reeve missed was the night he performed on American Idol. Otherwise he has been there. Reeve only performs a certain number of shows each week (i.e. Matinee Performances are Matthew James Thomas on as Peter Parker/Spider-Man).

Also I am not quite sure what you mean by Reeve looking scared while flying across the theatre. When I spoke to him he said that the flying was his favorite part and that it is "safer than going on a roller coaster."

But I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the show though! Just wondering, have they fixed any dialogue? There were a few scenes that I felt the dialogue could be tightened up a bit still especially when leading in to a song (i.e. "I Just Can't Walk Away")

Nope. All the dialogue needs some tweaks. "Just Can't Walk Away" seemed like it had a weird new ending to it. As in the song seemed longer. The lyrics are just bad. They basically don't say anything specific. But the melody isn't so bad. I don't think it fits Mary Jane's voice so great.

Also, why not open the show with Peter winning the science fair with his "experiment" on Arachnine? In the first Doctor Osborn scene they say something like "oh the kid who won the science fair is coming to tour the lab today," but that's the first time the audience has even heard of the science fair. It seems like a really messy way to get Peter to the lab, so why not incorporate it earlier instead of having the stupid book report? Also, during the book report the line "Some people hate spiders. But not me" is dumb. That needs to go. Also the joke about The Fantastic 4 never gets a laugh. Cut it.
