I just got off the phone with a friend who recently visited LA to see Rubicon's production of "Tick, tick...BOOM." We both signed up for the mailing list for the show, and yesterday, she sent them a cute note saying that she wished that the show would move to Broadway. Today, she got back a reply saying, "You will like our next announcement then." Has anyone heard anything about this move? Do you think it could work?

Manoel Feliciano would be the perfect replacement!

Felciano*

I think we should give Mano a break. He can't play EVERY role on Broadway. And IMHO, I'd much rather have him working on his solo career right now!

It could possibly work. I could see it done at the Circle in the Square, but Spelling Bee isn't going to close for a long time, I'm sure.

That would be amazing. I haven't heard about it, but I definitely vote for it. Has that ever happened? With a show that was originally off-Broadway having a different production moving to Broadway?

Mano can't play every role on Broadway *yet*. How is that human cloning thing coming along?

He would certainly fit- that part has a history of being played by totally cute guys.

It certainly would be an interesting situation as stated above if this did move.

Off the top of my head - Assassins and March of the Falsettos/Falsettoland was combined to form "Falsettos" and some of the cast members were different.

TTB is always best played in a smaller house where it can be intimate. The Jane Street theater where in played off-Broadway was perfect for the show. At least that's my .02

Yes, I can see it moving to an off-broadway theatre, but not in any of the houses currently dark on Broadway. I never saw it at the Jane Street, but in LA, the theatre was quite small, and the connection between actors and the little audience was one of the neatest things about the show.

Agreed. I saw it in Atlanta at the Alliance, but in a very small theatre and it was great. I don't think it would work nearly as well in a large house. It was like a black box.

I wish it would. I don't think the Helen Hayes is that big, maybe it could go in t here? After Kik & Herb leave, I mean.

after Kiki & Herb, Jay Johnson: The Two & Only is going into the Helen Hayes. i'd totally think it would rock as off-broadway.

i mean, if they could ever invent profitable off-broadway....

Oh, I forgot about that. Off-Broadway would probably be better anyway. As long as it's back in NYC.

I think Manoel is immensely talented, but... no.

No. Just...no.

Logically thinking, why would they move it to Broadway 5 years after it was off-Broadway? If they were going to ever do it, they probably would/should have done it then. You know, back when better-suited actors were available to play Jon...

I can't seeing it being that profitable on Broadway, granted the running costs wouldn't be that high, but I would think it would need some "star" power to help, and I can't imagine many stars could sing the score. I love this show, but I don't think it's feasable (sp?).

Also, Little Shop was off-Broadway, then moved on Broadway a good bit later in the recent "revival" with Hunter Foster. Though it wasn't really a revival because it was never seen on Broadway before.

Let some other shows give a chance to fill those theatres!

Little Shop didn't get to Broadway until over 20 years after it came out. TTB only premiered in 2001 Off-Broadway. My two cents...

-too intimate for a Broadway house
-no producer will find it financially worthwhile (yes, small running cost and Jonathan Larson's name, but that's it - look at what's on Broadway right now: movie musicals, not emotional musical autobiographies)
-why? Is New York DYING for a TTB revival?

I'm with COOOOLKID, make way for the new stuff. I love TTB, about to direct a production in Seattle, but it's had it's time, let another show play New York.

Ahhh this would be awesome. I don't care who they cast. Just as long as it's someone absolutely spectacular.

I'm gonna have to agree with bjivie2. I just can't see Tick, Tick... BOOM! in the mainstream right now. Of course, I wouldn't complain if it did come to New York... heck I'd be in line the day sales started!

I love the show, and I'd love to see it go to Broadway, but I agree that it needs to be in small theater.

Very small...

The show demands a certain level of intimacy between the actors onstage and the audience members. In a large theater, the show would not have the impact that it deserves I think. There would be too much of a disconnect.

It just seems too soon for a revival though- on or off Broadway. Although- I do love this show beyond belief, I'm not sure the public would feel the same way. They should have moved it around the time the RENT movie was released. That would have stood a chance.

I could see that happening but it really should stick to the smaller theatres. It's such a tiny show. Barely any set at all.

It is my understanding that the show will be going off-Broadway...

BroadwayBaby- You heard this? That's great to hear it isn't trying a full-on Broadway advance!
