I felt that Tina was very cute as Sophie and sang well enough for that role, but Glinda? I'd be very interested to hear if she has that strong of a soprano needed for the role. And impressed if she does.

my sad photoshop interpretation done in 2 minutes...
That wig has gotta go. They don't call Tina the girl with golden hair for nuttin'!

omg, she'd seriously be SO ADORABLE all galinda-fied hehe. and yeah, they really would need to use her own hair
but again... its just the vocals I wonder about.. its NOT an easy vocal part, at all! I DEF think she'd do an awesome popular, but I just wonder about the high soprano stuff.
you know, its so annoying, because laura has more the VOICE for g(a)linda, but she has more the look of elphie (omg, I bet she'd look SO gorgeous green). But she DOESNT have the vocals for elphie.. she's just not a belter I dont think
IF ANYBODY CAN DO IT TINA CAN!

I think Tina would be adorable as Glinda.

I don't care about which "cute Blond" plays Glinda but Broadway Matt, please say you don't really think Maddigan's "stock has risen" because the same 10 or so people, led by the awesome publicity firm of "phantom2" talk about her ad nauseum on Bww? I mean, seriously. And for the record, Maddigan's not the type they generally go for for Glinda, not physically or vocally. Benanti on the other hand is someone that could have and should have been perfect for the role but would most likely consider it "beneath her" to take on a role after Cheno. I'm going to agree with Amneris and say you're all missing the boat. Nessa Rose yes, Glinda um, no!
I agree with ruprecht. I don't see Tina Maddigan as Glinda at all. She doesn't have the soprano to sing through the top section of that score eight times a week for a lenghty period of time. People forget that Glinda doesn't just sing soprano in the opening number. She has the high parts in all the harmonies, belts high in Thank Goodness, and sings in the same key as NOMTW in the Finale.
People in this thread have sited Kendra Kassebaum not being a soprano and still doing this show; yes, they did have to build Kassebaum's top register, but she was already a high belter. Tina, however, is not. Her voice has a very pop sound (which is why she's been limited in the shows she can do.) They'd basically have to fake her through the entire score (other than "Popular,") and that obviously isn't feasble. As others have said, she would fit nicely into Nessarose, but deffinetly not as Glinda. As ruprecht said, let's not be naive here. She is still not well known in the Broadway community, even though she did get some nice publicity for going on for that leave of absence in TWS.
Ruprecht, I agree about Benanti being someone they would have looked at for Glinda. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if they have considered and/or auditioned her in the past. I don't think she'd fare well though, even though she obviously can sing it. She isn't very bubbly and energetic (she's more still and regal,) and that would hurt her in the role (the same way it did as Julia.) I'd rather her take a year off to completely rehabilitate this recurring injury and try and get in there to replace Ashley Brown in Mary Poppins when she decides to leave, because THAT'S a roll Benanti could knock out of the park.
Totally, 1000% agree somethingwicked but again, also agreeing with Rup, I think Benanti is one of those theater actresses that will never (unless she's really up sh*it's creek) do a replacement. At this point, she's better off doing a little more damage control for her career than looking for her next role which is probably going to be a bit harder to come by. People keep conveniently forgetting that Broadway and especially this board, have nothing to do with what sentiments the actual movers and shakers have about certain actors. It's safe to say, Maddigan isn't on some major radar, maybe in the future but not because she stepped in for the role of Julia of all things.
