Aaron Sorkin will write the adaptation for the theatre.
Scott Rudin will produce the play; no casting decisions to-date.

I am so excited for this! One of the best novels and one of the few book to movie adaptations that actually works great! Can't wait to see who they cast!

Be still my heart. My favorite novel of all time.

I wonder how faithful to the source material this will be. Sorkin does love to "alter" things, so it will be interesting with something that is well known, to see what he does. I don't really care for him, but I think this could be a great production for Broadway.

Not to mention Bart Sher is slated to direct! I loved his work with Golden Boy, so I'll be very excited to see the vision he brings to Mockingbird.

shows booking theaters a 1-2 years in advance is also saying something these days. Producers want to make sure their show(s) are landing on Broadway when they want them.

Couldn't get any female creative forces for Harper Lee's book?

Gaines and Cranston are too old.

Me too. I can't tell you how many times I have read it (and still find something new to value each time)

Peter Sarsgaard, Billy Crudrup or Robert Sean Leonard as Atticus Finch!!!
To Kill a Mockinbird is not a popular book in Brazil but the movie is constantly on our Brazilian TCM Channel. A fun fact is that here in Brazil the movie title was translated as "O Sol é Para Todos" = "The Sun is for Everybody". Sweet.

Of course, I assume Atticus will be changed from a lawyer to a male-writer who is SOO smart and funny and no one understands how smart and funny he is so he is the REAL person suffering here and presumably their mother will not have died, but will have been a woman who simply didn't have the high morals of Atticus.

Attiucs is the father of two little kids. He shouldn't be in his 60s. Gregory Peck was 44 when the movie was released.

I hope there are plenty of long hallway scenes with quick banter.
And I hope he says something like "Like killing a ... mockingbird!" and there is a big flown in mockingbird.

Mandy Patinkin or Hugh Jackman or Liev Schreiber would be my choices.
