Tony Awards Tickets

I am heading to my first Tony Awards on the 12th.

Just curious… where are most tickets located, and is every seating location tux-only dress code for men?

Well, most, if not all, of the seats are inside the theater. wink

I assume that you mean tickets that will be available to the general public? No where terribly close.

While I believe that tix are worded saying black tie required, its not. Heck, many of the nominees and presenters won't be in formal wear. Just dress as nice as your closet allows and have fun.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The general public seats are all in the upper levels: the mezzanines. None are in the orchestra level. Also, the red carpet is strictly guarded and credentials only so the general public enters thru the main doors and are not permitted anywhere near the red carpet. There is no dress code at any awards show hence the variety of clothing many attendees show up in. Common sense dictates to dress accordingly.

I find it odd that you weren"t provided this information before you paid for your ticket.

How did you buy your ticket if you didn’t specifically select your seat? The seats during the main public on sale were majority in the back few rows of the third mezzanine, but some in the back of the second mezzanine for a higher price too.

The ticket purchasing page on the Tony’s site says “Black tie only, please.”

I’ve attended the Tony Awards with general public tickets and I can attest the handful that wore tuxedos, looked embarrassed. They apparently thought attending the Tony Awards for them would include a step-n-repeat/red carpet moment. Everyone upstairs were in suits and ladies were in nice cocktail dresses with a few pissed off ladies in gowns. It’s obvious the tuxedos and gowns folks were newbies and assumed they had the same perks as the celebrities and nominees. cheeky

Oh that’s interesting. I’m also going this year and had only been worrying about being underdressed, no thought that it would be possible to be overdressed! I’ve had no inclination of anything other than “go to seat and watch ceremony,” but assumed everything everywhere would all be very formal. Thanks for the information!

A tuxedo and a suit.. basically look the same lol.
Wear whatever you want as long as you look presentable and not like you’re dressed like you’re going to Townhouse.

Woah, this is not true (have attended every Tony Awards for more than a decade. The Tony Awards are black tie. 90% of women will be in gowns. It is hot as **** outside on the line, but it's fine once you're inside.

We have been to the Tony Awards several times and I would have felt out of place not wearing tux, but wear what you will. In 2019 we sat next to Ali Stroker’s mother who was stunning in a sky blue gown and what a delightful woman she is, she invited us to go to an after party with her, which I would have again felt underdressed if not in a tux.

This all depends on the weather.
