Looks like Caitlin and Beth will both be competing for a spot in the lead actress category

Is there a reason they didn't discuss KING KONG? Specifically Christiani Pitts and her category placement.

I take it these rulings mean that Lucas Hedges is considered Lead for The Waverly Gallery?

The Prom rulings make sense.
I think it's sort of "category fraud" that Celia Keenan-Bolger is Featured for Mockingbird, yet Cherry Jones and Bobby Cannavale are Leads for Lifespan. But it all comes down to the producers petitioning.

Does it matter at which meeting they discuss anything?

I don't think you have to worry that Pitts will be nominated....so it's cool.

Caitlin is too much of a lead (the story is centered around her...mostly) to be featured, but its Beths nomination to lose.
Since Lucas Hedges is above the title, and wasnt petitioned down, he would be considered leading. Im just glad Joan Allen wont have to go up against Elaine May.

King Kong not being listed as "considered" means they did not invite the tony nominating committee and as of now, will not be up for any Tony's. Whether that changes and they invite them for their next round remains to be seen.
Last year a press release omitted The Parisian Woman as being considered, but the release was later edited to add it so it's ommission was an error. But the committee not making Pitts and the male lead eligible for lead actors means it may not be an error nor eligible at all at this moment.

Several noteworthy things here.
-this means Lucas Hedges is in leading. There was some debate about this in a thread recently, so now we have our answer.
-both Caitlin Kinnunen and Beth Leavel are leading. Same as above - I remember having a debate on here a few weeks ago about which one would be considered the lead. Looks like both sides of the debate were correct!
-Celia Keenan-Bolger will be in featured, which I disagree with on an artistic level, but Im glad that she now has a better shot at a nomination, or even a win. The reverse happened with Laura Donnelly. They could have put her in featured but they went with leading, meaning shell be up against a very formidable set of contenders. I hope she slips in!
-it says they discussed The New One, but there are no rulings. Does that mean it will be eligible as a play?
-I also noticed that they didnt explicitly say that The Waverly Gallery will fall under the Classics Rule, even though I would assume that it does. Is there anything to read into that? I cant remember whether they do that for all the classics-rule shows or not.

They typically discuss any show that opens within the window of their precious meeting, which is why I question KING KONG.
Im only interested her in placement because the number of leading actresses under consideration has an effect on the number of nominees in the category.

I'd think Lucas Hedges would have a more difficult time cracking through with a nomination for Best Lead Actor rather than Best Featured Actor with Bryan Cranston, Jeff Bridges, the True West guys, Michael Urie, whomever is lead in The Boys and the Band, and Nathan Lane.
I guess the committee didn't approve his petitioning down.

This is incorrect.

I feel like this is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen someone on this board say Jeff Bridges instead of Jeff Daniels. Come on, people!

Oh crap! Hahaha. I was just watching his speech on the Golden Globes and totally had a brain fart! I can only blame that and the stress of thinking of plays with lead actors, other than that I have no excuse. Hahahaha.

Posted: 1/24/19 at 8:37pmI'm surprised to see Beth Leavel ruled as leading actress - I think she'll for sure be nominated but now have no chance of winning (which she did have more so in the supporting category).

I, for one, would LOVE to see Jeff Bridges as Atticus in "Dude, You Killed A Mockingbird?!"

...Not to mention Paddy Considine, John Lithgow, Jeremy Pope, Radcliffe & Cannivale, Tracy Letts, Jonny Lee Miller, anyone from Burn This if they're considered Leading...
It's an absurdly stacked category this year.
Too early to call since so much hasn't opened, but if I had to guess today, I'd go with Considine, Cranston, Daniels, Lane, annnnnd maybe Lithgow. Though I'd love to see Pope and/or Urie sneak in there.
(Also, they ruled on Boys in the Band, and Jim Parsons is the only one considered Leading.)

Best Actor in Play is such a competitive category this year!

It's almost like they consider the size of the role to decide where they go, as opposed to where they might best be able to win?!
