I find it interesting that nobody has mentioned Oscar Nominee and Three Time Emmy winner Cicely Tyson on here. She is one of the most respected actresses of her generation and she is 80 years old. She could probably walk across the stage and get a nomination.
Best Musical: Matilda Kinky Boots Hands on a Hardbody Motown
Best Revival of a Musical: Cinderella Jekyll & Hyde (I know but I think it's basically this.. "WILDHORN IS BACK!) ...Edwin Drood Pippin
Best Actor in a Musical: Anthony Warlow-Annie Billy Porter-Kinky Boots Constantine Maroulis-Jekyll & Hyde Santino Fontana-Cinderella Jim Norton-...Edwin Drood
Best Actress in a Musical: The Matildas Laura Osnes-Cinderella Patina Miller-Pippin Lilla Crawford-Annie Stephanie J. Block-...Edwin Drood (I'm NOT seeing Deborah Cox getting a nomination)
Best Featured Actor in a Musical: Hunter Foster- Hands on a Hardbody Bertie Carval- Matilda Will Chase- The Mystery of Edwin Drood David Larson- Hands on a Hardbody Laird Mackintosh-Jekyll & Hyde
Best Featured Actress in a Musical: Andrea Martin-Pippin Teal Wicks-Jekyll & Hyde Annaleigh Ashford-Kinky Boots Keala Settle- Hands on a Hardbody Lesli Margherita- Matilda
I would LOVE to see Wicks get a nomination! I doubt it will happen only because it's such a tough category and the Wildhorn stigma will affect her chances.
Yeah Annaleigh Ashford is so a LOCK with the great reveiws on her side. BUT I think Teal Wicks will get nominated because her performance as Emma was really one of the highlights for me because she gave the character depth instead of portraying her as a flimsy ingenue
@Broadwaybabe I would tend to agree with you especially since the Tony nominators are known to try and spread the wealth with the musical categories as long as the producers egos are not out of line (Addams family, Young Frankenstein). Kathy Lee Gifford was extremely humble when she brought Scandalous to Broadway, and she has always been a very large and outspoken supporter for the Broadway community. Although she has no chance at a nomination with there being 5 decent to great scores this season with Matilda, Bring It On!, Hands on a Hardbody, A Christmas Story, and Kinky Boots, Carollee Carmello is the shows best chance for a nomination. The only way I can see her getting a nomination though since Best Actress is going to be an extremely tough race is either one of 2 things happening. The less likely thing is that they rule the Matildas ineligible since they break the rule of 3, and the more likely event which is that the nominators feel that Drood is already getting its far share of nominations for a production that is already closed and give Carollee Carmello, Stephanie J. Block's nomination.
I really hope either Chaplin or Bring It On gets nominated over Hands on a Hard Body. The show was very disappointing! I was very bored. I loved Bring It On and Chaplin and I hope they get remembered.
I think most competitive and unpredictable will be either Best Director of a Musical (Paulus vs. Warchus) and Best Actor in a play. Right now it's looking like Tracy Letts, Alan Cumming, and Tom Hanks are all locks for nominations and I think any one could win. I know there have been doubts about Hanks, but I really don't think they could resist the urge to nominate him simply so they can cut to him throughout the broadcast.
What about Alec Baldwin in Orphans? I'm sure he'll be nominated. And I think Annie will get less love than most people predict it will. I doubt Lilla will get nominated considering everyone now loves the Matilda girls.
Oh yeah, I'm sure Baldwin will snatch a nomination up too! There are SO many possibilities that I knew I would miss a couple. Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce (if he's considered lead, haven't seen the show yet), etc.
