A palm tree broke during the curtain call of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It was the Easter performance so during the BC/EFA speech, Mylinda Hull quipped, "We even broke a palm tree for you." That and Norbert's absence did not ruin an otherwise amazing experience at the theatre.

I haven't really witnessed too many. In one of my productions ("Cabaret"), we had plastic wine glasses and the bases started falling off during the show.

I would say that the Gavroches in the revival have been pretty good about getting the bag across.

I have seen it 15 times and saw every combo of Gavroche you can imagen for this revival. And There was only one time that the bag didn't go over.

I saw several drinking glasses fall and break just as the revolve was turning during "Do You Hear the People Sing?" on tour two summers ago. Some students were tidier than others. re: Unintentional Prop Breaks

Not really a break so much as a malfunction, but during the living room scene of Hairspray when they are watching Tracy on the show for the first time, Edna is supposed to pick up the phone. It rang, but when Bruce Vilanch (I believe it was him) went to pick it up he said, "That's funny, i hear it ringing, but I don't see it!" THe Wilbur went offstage and brought it back without a word.

Well, I'm glad he got away with it.

I didn't witness it myself, but according to a book I read about a year ago, it mentioned that during "The Odd Couple" there was a show where the leg on the couch broke and Nathan and Matthew ad-libbed for about 10 minutes about needing to lose weight, etc. until they could replace the couch.

Then that wasn't the night that Bruce just reached off stage and grabbed the powder puff. He did that once, as well, when the phone was forgotten. I had to hand it to him on stage.

"If we're going into set malfunctions too, Les Mis has many tales of epic fail where the barricade broke down. I never saw that, but I did see the Rue Plumet gate jump its track and slide halfway down the stage with Adam Jacobs still on it..."

Wow, that sounds intense. What stopped the gate from falling into the orchestra pit?

Last year at "Phantom", when Carlotta is asked to sing Think of me by the new owners, the stagehands dropped the backdrop too soon, obviously shocking all of the actors on stage, who were not in the proper place, so it actually hit them on the head. The backdrop was quickly pulled back up, and Carlotta kept going. Then, she went upstage, the actors cleared away, and the backdrop "fell" at the correct time, this time with the orchestra playing the creepy music, the lights going down, etc. So, I'm sure if there was anyone seeing the show for the first time that night, they were thinking "Why did they just ignore the backdrop when it fell a few seconds ago, and now they're all jumpy and scared about it??"
