Is this still starting production next month? How do we not have a full cast yet?

Due to many factors, most films have announced casts after filming has already begun. Recasting occurs quite a bit very early into filming. Sometimes announcements are made after an actor has wrapped filming their sections.
What is AAVE? I am suspecting African American something?

Maybe Cynthia hasn't signed off on their approval yet?

That story where she stopped the producer of the color purple for not telling her Heather Headley was leaving and who was replacing her is still so insane to me.
ETA: my apologies, I thought the story was in regards to JHud leaving the show. It was actually Heather Headley.

I wonder when rehearsals start.

I can at least confirm that sets construction has been going on since April at Sky Studios Elstree. No word yet on the start of principal photography.

What "approval"? She's not at a point in her career where she would get any approvals.

Sarcasm seems to be something many need to research. Rule of thumb, anytime something makes no sense it’s because it’s generally a reference and using a sarcastic statement implying that reference.

Wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a Charlie Puth announcement as Fiyero very soon…
He seems to pretty much is all but saying it. I'm personally not a fan BUT I do think he's talented.

It’s a reference to this vanity fair article/Q&A Cynthia did back in august.
“Erivo: All of the work that you’ve done, yeah. Oh, I haven’t told you about this. I had that when I was on The Color Purple on Broadway. If someone leaves, they just replace them without really talking to anyone. So, I’m playing Celie, and they’re replacing Shug, who is my co-star. I have no idea who’s coming in until the week they’re coming in. And this was the third time around they’re replacing. The producer announces on the stage who’s replacing Heather [Headley], and I have no idea. And I remember going, “Why wouldn’t you tell me?” It was after a show that the producer told us, on the stage. And I remember going, “Well, do you mind if we talk about this?” And he was like, “Yes.” And then he sneaks off so I can’t find him. But I see him walking off and I follow him.
Coel: With your little fast legs.
Erivo: With my little fast legs. I follow him, and I call out to him, I call his name, I call his name. He ignores me. He doesn’t stop. This man at the end of the corridor goes, “She’s calling you.” So, he stops, turns around, comes back. And I go, “Why wouldn’t you tell me what’s going on?” and he flies off the handle. Yells at me in the corridor, points at my face, says, “You don’t have the right to talk to me like this. You just do this show.” And Michaela, this is after I’ve won the Tony. The show itself has won a Tony. And I’m now annoyed. I’m like, “I can’t believe this. You don’t care about me or the show. You care about the fact that you’ve won. Now you’ve won your Tony, and I don’t matter. I don’t matter because you won the thing.” And it was that moment for me that, all the work, all of the stuff I had done to at least gain the respect of the people I’m working with went out the window.”
DOUBLE POST
Reminds me of the time Kelly Ripa boycotted her own show. After Regis decided to finally leave the show, his replacement was Michael Strahan. He became co-host opposite Ripa. Several years later he decided to leave and join GMA. Ripa learned of this new gig with the press announcement - never once was she even given the heads-up Michael was leaving… her show. He didn’t tell her, nor the producers of her own show. She found out he was leaving the same moment the rest of the world did. Erivo’s story is fully justifiable. She was STARRING in THE COLOR PURPLE. Won a Tony Award for it, which helped ticket sales. You’d assume the producers would keep her on the loop on who they were considering casting for her co-star. Even if she didn’t have approval, at least keep her posted on what’s going on.

Your assumption would be wrong.

Erivo was an unknown actress, not a producer. Yes, she was the lead and won the Tony, and it would’ve been nice to inform her early, but the producers didn’t have to do anything of the sort.
Also, while she’s perfectly justified to hold a grudge against a producer who yelled at her, the reports of her barely hiding her dislike for Jennifer Holliday onstage is the conduct of a spoiled brat.
