Blah!
Wait, is it February again?
Grasping at straws for some news, it seems...
Go to the Variety link anyway for a positively SCINTILLATING still from the film that I have yet to see. Looks like "Only With You", were that (still) in the film.

Ahhh!
I am looking forward to hearing the new stuff.
When Yeston is on, his melodies are thrilling.
Anyone know what songs are cut?
Pgenre, I think it says late Nov..

We knew all this information in Feb.- all the info that is new here is that "Take It All" was filmed ONLY as a solo (it was reportedly filmed as the solo AND the trio version) and that "Guarda La Luna" will be based on the melody "Nine" whereas it was previously reported it would have elements of "Waltz From Nine".
Everyone expected the new trailer, which is fan-f*cking-tastic, before INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS but Weinstein wants a little more build-up, apparently. I wouldn't count out this weekend though, or one soon, for the new all-singing, all-dancing trailer to hit the net.

Is Sophia the only Italian in the film?
NINE is going to be a hard sell given the artsy take by Marshall and an uneven cast [if a film has Nicole Kidman post-Botox it has to be bad].

Is Sophia the only Italian in the film?
Well of the main cast she is. But there's tons of Italians in the supporting roles.
DDL - Ireland
Cotillard - France
Cruz - Spain
Dench - UK
Fergie / Hudson - USA
Kidman - Australia
Loren - Italy
Nice to see Cotillard getting the praise from Yeston for the new song though. That is something Harvey can push when it comes to publicity.

so everything (all the singing) happens in Guido's head . . . hmmm. . . sounds like the Roxie Cop Out.
Arguably, the entire stage musical happens in his head. It's Guido's midlife crisis with his romantic life flashing before his eyes.
Unless you can believe that every woman he ever knew stood together in the same spa, at the same time, wearing black. And then switched to white when he finally was at peace with himself.
The whole thing is a panic attack of a dream set to music.
So, while this may have been a concept switch for Chicago, it's not at all a switch for Nine.
Wow, you're right. That Variety image is terrific. Wish it was bigger.
you wish what was bigger?
it's Cruz and Cotillard?
Yes, Cruz and Cotillard.
Agree that it's a great photo and it does look like "Only With You," but the song is gone. I guess Marshall really used his butcher knife with the songs on this one. Hopefully, it'll pay off like it did with CHICAGO (though I still wish the film hadn't lost "My Own Best Friend" and "Me and My Baby").
I can't wait to see this movie, and I agree with Besty, NINE happens in Guido's head, so Marshall's concept is not a stretch.
Only With You is gone?! Boo, I love that song.
Quick question... In the trailer...The Woman in the nuns outfit is Hudson right?
I believe the only songs that remain are
Guido's Song
Call From The Vatican
My Husband Makes Movies
Folies Bergeres
Be Italian
Unusual Way
I Can't Make This Movie
That's what posters on IMDB said, after the screenings.
They also said that the Overture is still in, but it's not sung. I really want to have faith in this movie, but cutting out SO much of the score (10 songs!) makes a little uneasy. However, for every item about this movie that disheartens me, there's another one that makes me excited again ( even though we've only seen about 8 seconds of it, "Cinema Italiano" looks thrilling).
Eek! They also cut some of the best ones , Nine? Grand Canal? Not happy.
I went to imbd.com and they list these as the cut songs. If true, I wonder why not begin from scratch, that's A LOT of songs.
Overture Della Donne
Spa Music
Not Since Chaplin
Western di Guido/The Bible/Documentary
Only With You
The Script
Nine
Ti Voglio Bene
The Bells of St. Sebastian
A Man Like You
Contini Submits
The Grand Canal
Every Girl in Venice
Marcia di Ragazzi
Amor
Guido Nervoso
Only You
Tarantella
Opera Finale
Simple
Be On Your Own
Not Since Chaplin
Waltz from Nine
Getting Tall
Reprises
While, yes, they cut a LOT, that is a bit of a deceptive list. "Western di Guido..." isn't really a song. It's about 30 seconds of music. "The Grand Canal" through "Opera Finale" are all basically one big 15 minute segment that we all knew wasn't going to be in, anyway.
Damn. I'm gonna miss The Bells of St. Sebastian.
I understand how the whole thing is in Guido's head, but for the more intimate songs like "Unusual Way," which is also really well integrated into the book scene, I just don't see how that song can do well in a "production number."
Ditto, roseaddams. I'm really nervous about how this one is going to turn out. I don't understand the need to cut integral songs like "Only With You," "Bells of St. Sebastian," "Nine," "Be On Your Own," and "Getting Tall" in favor of three new compositions. I can't imagine that the big Kate Hudson production number will be more important plot-wise than any of the cut songs I listed.
I sooo wanted to love this, but with the massacre of the score I've just given up.
I know, people say accept it for what it is, it's not the musical, it's reinvented for the screen blah, blah, blah.....
But in all truthfulness, I love the show so much that I really can't separate the movie from the stage show. It may end up being brilliant, but it's not the Nine I love.
I surprisingly can live with every one of those cut songs except for BE ON YOUR OWN. Because of that, I actually have no real desire to see this flick.
I can't believe The Bells of St Sebastian, Be On Your Own, AND Nine are cut! lord.
