Vanya with Andrew Scott

It is extremely rare that someone, particularly someone new to the board, replies to every single post in a thread they started. That pattern does seem very much like a bot in a conversation.

Okay paranoid much? Wow.

By the way, I’m not new to the board. I just couldn’t remember my password and it won’t let me sign in under my old account. I was here when the late great Margo Channing posted. But thanks for your input.

Apparently you are given your response to my completely benign explanation for why some think you might be AI.

But no worries, got you on mute now, so continue your bizarre pattern of responding incessantly.

Nowadays just save and budget. Of course if you wait and see cheaper seats become available, snag those. But if the only price available is $400 and you're a huge fan of Andrew Scott, then definitely save/budget.

You have 6 months to save and budget for this experience. Try to save $20/week and you'll have $400 by the time Andrew Scott performs off-bway in spring 2025. Good luck!

Or subscribe for a month of NT at Home for $12.99 and watch the taped version there for anyone who doesn't need to see it live.

As others have said, the MOST expensive ticket currently on sale thru the official Lortel website is $354 (incl fees).  Tickets start at $99.  Not sure where you are seeing $400 -- but clearly you are not looking in he right places.

Sara Holdren in Vulture

https://www.vulture.com/article/vanya-review-andrew-scott.html

"The production, directed by Sam Yates and designed by Rosanna Vize (movingly, they also share co-creator credits with Scott and Stephens), racked up plenty of its own accolades — and though shows beloved on one side of the Atlantic don’t always stick the landing on the other, this one vaults across with wit and grace.

To its creators’ great credit, the show’s form registers not as a celebrity stunt—or even, whatever the reality, as one of the many solo performances producers have gravitated toward in the era of COVID-altered theater—but as an intimate and sincere actor’s laboratory, a chance to turn one of Chekhov’s rangy, yearning ensembles into a kind of revelatory Russian doll, messing about with his inimitable voice in order to channel it to thrilling effect. Because what makes this Vanya sing is that we don’t simply witness Scott’s virtuosity but, through him and through Stephens’s cleverly spare adaptation, Chekhov’s."

REVIEW: ANDREW SCOTT CREATES A WORLD OUT OF NOTHING IN VANYA -Dan Rubins

And because Scott treats every character with such rigorous respect, Vanya becomes not so much a deconstruction of a classic as a celebration—of Chekhov, of theater, and of the possibility of actor and audience agreeing to picture a fully-realized world together.

This was the best performance of the season for me.

I’ve seen three Vanyas in the last year and a half in New York and ready for a break. Bring on Blanchett’s The Seagull and hopefully a top notch Three Sisters is just around the corner. Seeing Cherry Orchard in two weeks.

What does this have to do with the play?  lol

Vanya with Andrew Scott

I saw this a few days ago and found it conceptually interesting, masterfully executed, but somehow I felt emotionally distanced from the actions on stage. It's a play about trying, and try Scott did. You couldn't stop marvel at Scott's performance, but the marveling happened more on a technical level than on an emotional level. The play was greatest when it focuses on a signle character and Scott did a great job letting the pathos shine through. However, I did find it creepy when Scott used his one of his arm to act on the other arm, signaling the action between two characters. But overall, it was a great expereince seeing Scott live and doing what he does best.

Cherry Orchard is great.  BUT it takes getting into the 2nd act to really cook in that production.  Then boy does it.

I’m so mad. Just got an email from TodayTix that due to an “administrative error,” my ticket to the show on Easter has been cancelled. What?!?!? Is there anything I can do?
