I don't care if it's too early to make Tony Predictions, mine for GREASE are:
Best Revival of a Musical (There are only four musical revivals this year, and if a choice has to be made between GREASE and THE GRINCH, GREASE will be picked)
Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Jenny Powers)
"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum
^ The nomination committee in no way needs to pick 4 revivals because there are 4 slots. If they feel there are only 3 worthy revivals, then they will only nominate 3.
We serve their food,
We carve their meat,
We tend to their house,
We polish their
Silverware.
They don't HAVE to nominate four revivals. They could choose fewer. They could even just award it to one if they want to and skip the nominating. And with Young Frankenstein, In the Heights, and Xanadu having so many spectacular featured women and Sherie Scott in Mermaid, Jenny Powers will get bumped because the rest of her show is sub-par...Unless Brantley says something about her like he said about Ebersole in Grey Gardens--but let's be reasonable here. It's Grease. It's Rizzo. Bah-duh-dah-dah-duh.
I think GREASE will get a nod for Best Revival because of how commercially successful it's been so far and (probably) will continue to be. The Tony Committe tends to be a sucker for theater that makes a lot of money.
Unless they recognize this from nominating the last revival and limit it to two nominations, like in 2002 (Oklahoma! and Into the Woods: that was it).

"You just can't win. Ever. Look at the bright side, at least you are not stuck in First Wives Club: The Musical. That would really suck. "
--Sueleen Gay
I just wanted to add, I think GREASE has a chance of a nomination for Best Revival. A CHORUS LINE got a nomination, and though it got much better reviews than GREASE (so far), I still think it will be nominated for the same reason A CHORUS LINE was: because its GREASE. I dont know, but unless if all the other revivals this year are absolutely outstanding (which I hope they will be), I think GREASE will be nominated, but definitely not win. And I think Jenny might have a chance of a Featured nomination- kind of like a Carolee Carmello in LESTAT nomination: "Great performance in sucky show". Who knows though, but Jenny has gotten outstanding reviews so far.
EDIT: after reading that Brantley review, I'm starting to have a feeling it MIGHT not be nominated for Best Revival...ouch
My 2007/2008 Season:
Grey Gardens (7/5)
110 in the Shade (7/6)
Mary Poppins (7/7)
Xanadu (7/7)
Deuce (7/8)
Spamalot (7/8)
Jersey Boys (8/25)
The Year of Magical Thinking (8/25)
Mauritius (11/2)
Young Frankenstein (11/3)
Rock 'N' Roll (11/3)
Pygmalion (11/4)
Mauritius (11/10)
Mauritius (11/21) Mauritius (11/21)
Sunday in the Park with George (3/6)
South Pacific (3/7)
Gypsy (3/8)
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (3/9)
Interesting that Brantley didn't even mention Jenny Powers when just about every critic singled her out as the only part worthy of seeing the show. I doubt this will get a Best Revival nomination.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
See I didn't think Powers was that good either. Her song was great, but overall I thought she was just blah. I agree that Kirsten Wyatt definitely deserves props. I AM surprise however that Brantley didn't mention Robyn Hurder as Marty given his affection for blondes.
Well, it's possible that it could get nominated, but it would never win... not with SITPWG, Guys and Dolls, and South Pacific all getting revivals this season.
The Grinch doesn't count as a revival, so unless we get another revival announced, the nominees are going to be:
Grease Guys and Dolls South Pacific Sunday in the Park with George
You KNOW Grease will be nominated because they will want a performance on the Tony telecast, but it is fourth place for sure, look at it's competition!
Bustopher, Grinch won't be eligible for Best Revival - the Tony rules say that there have to be at least three years between the closing of the original and opening of the new production for the new production to be considered a revival.
edit: LuPonatic beat me to it.

Brantley's review is rather scathing after a second reading and he likes Frenchy and never mentions Power's Rizzo, that has to hurt. But the audience they are aiming at have never heard the name Ben Brantley, so they will run a while, under a dark cloud of horrible reviews. Marshall, on the other hand should take her money and retire from the Broadway stage a while.
Franz, GUYS & DOLL is definitely coming to Broadway this season, there's a 50/50 chance that they get the cast they want (Messing, Wilson, Reilly, Hathaway) but the show itself is coming. So far in terms of revivals we have: SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE GREASE SOUTH PACIFIC GUYS & DOLLS And CABARET and PAL JOEY are still pending.
"How do you like THAT 'misanthropic panache,' Mr. Goldstone?" - PalJoey
It's not confirmed one way or the other. A lot of things are still up in the air, which is why it's too soon to tell what will be eligible for Best Revival.

WEST SIDE STORY is looking to open next season not this. CABARET was rumored to open with Alan Cumming in January/February at the Henry Miller but no formal announcement has been made and I'm not sure it's even happening anymore. PORGY AND BESS was supposed to happen this season but I doubt it'll transfer this season if it even transfers at all.
