WSS -or- SING ST ?

[hate to be ''one of those people'']

I have a possible open slot on my May visit, of either WEST SIDE STORY or SING STREET which is a better option?

I haven't seen WSS but did see ST at NYTW twice. I loved it. I'm nervous for how the transfer to a big theater will end up. I've heard great things about WSS. I'd imagine you can't go wrong with either.

Very different experiences. I liked West Side Story with its faults; I really liked Sing Street with its sweet sentimentality.

Sing Street is less risky. I think it's more of a general crowd-pleaser, but it is forgettable by comparison. West Side Story takes a much bigger swing. It divides audiences, but those who like it (myself included) really like it. WSS is much more memorable and treasured for me.

I like the songs in Sing Street, but that book was pretty awful to me. Hope they have major re-writes for Broadway.

Saw both at X-mas, Sing Street is pretty amateurish compared to the spectacle of WSS.

I kind of feel like that's the point. It's a group of kids forming a band, creating their own music videos, and performing at their school to impress a girl. It shouldn't look too polished.

Depends on what kind of show you're looking for. This version of WSS is rather avant-garde, forcefully contemporary, and bleak - definitely an edgier type of revival. Sing Street is much smaller in feel and intentionally rough around the edges. Personally, I prefer the kinder heart of Sing Street, but that's just me.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Sing Street ends up touring in the next year or two, depending on its reception. But this revival of West Side Story is something that you can only experience in that theater. For that reason, I would recommend WSS.

WSS not to be missed and in MAY the TONY voters attend so likely no understudies

There's no contest: see WSS and watch the film version of Sing Street. The SS musical is the biggest disappointment of this season so far - and last!  Just dreadful. Read the reviews, they hit it spot on. Charmless and boring, even.
