Does anyone know how Waitress is selling?  Are people excited about it?

No idea how it is selling and No interest in seeing it.  The commercials don'y even make it look like a Broadway show and I don'y know the composer's work.  Maybe if you are a fan of hers you will buy a ticket.

It's sold REALLY WELL! Just take a look at Ticketmaster, most orchestra and front orchestra seats are gone and they even list the third row of center orchestra as premium. One may argue that the producers haven't released these seats yet, but I got a front row mezzanine seat, dead center, for the evening performance on April 20 in early February because I LOVE Jessie Mueller, and guess what, I can't find a front mezzanine seat on that level anymore for at least the first month.

I got front mezz seats on a weekend in April with no problem so I do not think it's selling all that great.  Looking forward to seeing it though...

If anything, I walked past the Brooks Atkinson Theatre the other night with some friends on the way to dinner and they asked what WAITRESS was about.  Turns out none of them knew or remembered the film.  Nor who Jessie Mueller was.  THIS is a glimpse of how the mainstream masses will be responding to this new musical.  If THEY don't know, this means trouble as we savvy theatre know-it-alls are the minority in ticket sales.  

 

At least the marquee looks nice.

Up until her current cd of music from the show, I have not owned any of Bareilles' music. I like her though. The music for this show is wonderful and I can't wait to see how it is orchestrated and sung onstage. 

 

I have looked a few places and cannot find a discount code for it so I am guessing it is selling well. Really looking forward to this one.

Maybe Waitress doesn't have mainstream name recognition now, but just wait until Waitress is nominated for multiple Tony awards  (not saying it will win against Hamilton but the publicity should spike interest)  As a rule,  I never buy tickets before the preview but have a good feeling about this one.  I had the confidence in early January to buy my October tickets.  I wanted to make sure we could get front row center mezzanine and noticed seats are selling into next fall.

I saw the show at the A.R.T. It's a lot of fun and Jesse is a talent! Her performance alone is worth the cost of a ticket. I'll be there during previews as of now. Trying to get opening night tickets but nothing is online yet...anyone have any ideas?

I know of the movie (it's one of the ones they used to play on TV a lot) but I've never seen it. I'm interested because it's Sara Bareilles and I've loved her music since her first album but it's hard to gauge her level of mainstream fame. I feel like when they were big you heard "Love Song" and "Brave" all over the place but I don't know how much that translated to the average person looking up the rest of her music and following her career.

I'm a big fan of the music of Sara Bareilles and also Jessie Mueller. I think the music may be it's selling point in the general audience demographic. She's had some notable hits. I just caught this article on the choreographer and there is a song linked at the bottom.

I'm the opposite; I've owned every single album she's released (and I think I own the sheet music for each album as well). I even have seen the movie (I think someone got it for me for my birthday like 7 years ago for some strange reason). I was looking at tickets for my upcoming trip in June and was surprised at the plethora of seats available to me. I'm not sure if I'll want to see it but if I do I don't think it'll be a problem getting tickets.

I have never seen the film and really don't know anything about the storyline, but the Mueller and Barellis involvement, much like Bright Star with Martin and Brickell, are enough for me to invest in a ticket to see hopefully, something new and fresh.

mc1227, Martin and Brickell are also the reason I am looking forward to Bright Star.  Plus, I know a cast member.

At A.R.T. it was a sold out run. I expect it to do well on Broadway. I had no clue who Sara Bareilles was before I saw it. Also only knew who Jessie was because she won the Tony for Beautiful. I went to A.R.T. to see Jeanna deWaal(whom unfortunately was cut from the show on Broadway). Jessie's performance alone is worth the ticket price.

I think the pie making commercial for this show does NO favors for it.  It seems so lame and I would guess most people are waiting at the end to find out what brand of pie filling  or crust it's advertising -- and sad when they find out it's about some show instead that looks like it would be boring as hell. 

 

Not my opinion of the show, mind you -- just an observation about that commercial.

You must be pretty dense if you don't get it's a show and not a commercial for pie filling/crust.

Me too: didn't know Bareilles, only heard of Jessie from Beautiful, and was super excited to see Jeanna again. Had no idea what to expect. But I liked it so much at ART that I saw it several times, buying tickets early on when they were pretty cheap. Jessie is fabulous. And Dakin Matthews has a song that kills me.

I was just coming to post that link SLS. Thanks! It was nice to see some of the songs again - her performance of She Used to Be Mine is heartbreaking.

 

I am a huge Sara Bareilles fan and I was able to catch Waitress at A.R.T. during a trip to New England this summer and I really enjoyed it. As others have said, Jessie Mueller really shows off her acting chops in this and is worth the price of admission. I'll be at the first preview and also have tickets for later in the spring. They have released some discount codes but it seems to be selling well overall.

I saw it twice at the ART and I do agree that Jessie does a fantastic job, and yes, watching her alone in this would be worth the price of admission. She shows such a vulnerability, but then also so much strength and resilience. Her performance is very layered. I also think the rest of the cast just fits their roles so well. Jessie and Drew have great chemistry, and Keala gets to show off her great comedic timing as well. Also love the casting of Dakin Matthews as Joe. Joe is someone the whole audience just naturally loves, I think.

Broadway.com has a few more songs up. Not a fan of Christopher Fitzgerald or Kimiko Glenn's performances. I miss Jeanna and Jeremy from A.R.T. 

Jessie sounds fantastic in She Used to Be Mine though!

I really hope they have an actual cast recording. Sara's album came out very recently, so the producers might decide to not bother with an OBC album. I want me some Jessie's vocals.

Jessie Mueller sounds amazing on "She Used To Be Mine"...so ecstatic to see this production!
