Really, every company ever should read this thread before launching an ad campaign: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1086703
What kind of bullshit is this?!?!!!
So according to Wells Fargo a career in the sciences is more respectable and prestigious than a career in the arts?!?!?! Every one of us has a purpose on this planet and our right to pursue our dreams whether that dream is to be a Supreme Court justice or a janitor at the local McDonald's should be respected.
How dare they put out an ad like this?
How would like it if a botanical organization had put out an ad that read: Yesterday a bank teller. Today a botanist?
This is a slap in the face to everyone who has sacrificed blood, sweat and tears for a career in the arts.
If no one pursued a career in the arts then theater, film and television and art in general would cease to exist.
What is wrong with these people?!?!

What were they thinking when they made this ad campaign? I doubt Audra McDonald or Meryl Streep is going to drop a highly successful acting career to become a botanist.
Other Broadway social media thoughts (I'll aggregate them onto this post as I see them):
Megan Fairchild
Heather Headley
Jay Armstrong Johnson
Rob McClure
What's the source of the picture? Did Wells Fargo release it themselves? I haven't seen any official releases of this particular ad. Imjust trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
This is disgusting. How disrespectful.
Yesterday - a Wells Fargo bank teller. Today - a Tony winning actor.
How ironic that they were virtually immortalized in a Broadway musical.

So will the next revival of the Music Man change the title and lyrics of the song out of spite? That'd be pretty funny.

Just baffling how many idiots at Wells Fargo this had to go through to get final approval.

I think that a big problem for kids with Arts careers aspirations is that its not seen as practical often from their guardians. I was never artisticly inclined but still my parents always pushed me to study maths and science at school and drop the " useless" arts subjects ASAP because they though that medical careers where the most reliable and stable. They where south asian immigrants though so maybe some of it was cultural bias.
A lot of talent probably remains undiscovered due to that kind of attitude.

Let's be upset with them over encouraging STEM education, but give them a pass on the predatory lending and investments in for-profit prisons.
You can encourage an education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics without discouraging the arts which often inspire those in all other fields.
They have a facebook page and you can message them. I just went to it.

Agree with this. I did major in communications in college, but now work in retail. I need the arts to give me something to look forward to outside of work.
As someone who shunned off a creative career because I was convinced by others that a scientific one was more viable despite my disinterest, I am especially offended by this.
It's just perpetuating toxic ideas.

It appears to be a print ad only. I looked for all references to Wells Fargo Teen Day, but it's all the same photo of the same ad.

Should be:
"Wells Fargo teller yesterday. Ballerina today."
Seriously. Do they know what lifelong hard work and sacrifice and dedication it takes to become a ballet dancer?
The list of gadgets and advancements in health and technology that were first imagined as science fiction and inspired real life scientists is practically endless. That science fiction was delivered through the arts.

Yeah, but you're missing my point. This ad is one of the least offensive things they've done.

Mass incarceration seems to be slavery in the new age in that both are deeply rooted in racism-based capitalism.
Annoying actor friend is hilarious!!! My favorite one is the American Girl ad https://twitter.com/actor_friend/status/772085011457699840
Wow. Someone's working on the weekend -- here's an apology!

One of the stupidities of today's PC is the either/or mentality. It's either STEM or it's the arts - you can't support both. Live for the both/and! In most cases, it works. Those in the Wells Fargo ad office should know that.
