Well you just said we are entitled to our opinions then you say we are being horrible to her. I really like Kerry but she has missed a lot of shows & when she is on I've heard it's been half-assed, not being horrible just telling the truth.

Actually that is not true, I saw Kerry on July 4th and thought she rocked. Granted she wasn't doing any riffing and according to winston got the "general Elphaba recpetion", but she was good none the the less. Nowhere while I was watching her was anything half-assed, it was geniune and natural. Plus shes seems like she has great chemistry with Kendra and FYI I may be a Kerry fan, but I am not from Britain, I'm from Pennsylvania.

iluvny04, I agree with what you said. I saw Kerry on 6/22 and though that she was incredible. I have also seen her on her first night and she was very disoriented and nervous. I also am from Pennsylvania...LOL.

"'Am sorry ,but if Julie is better than Kerry why is Kerry the lead and Julie the understudy???'

Are you so naive as to actually believe that the regular performer is always better than the understudy?????? Lord, I knew we were dealing with kids in this thread, but I had no idea it was going to be like this."

Thank you, whoever it was that wrote this, for answering the ridiculousness before I had to.
Although I do find it funny.

^Just to add… Stephanie J. Block, Eden Espinosa, Shoshana Bean, Caissie Levy, Lisa Brescia, among others were first understudies or standbys for Elphaba before being the principle. So yeahhh… Julie is totally not better than Kerry because she’s an understudy :rolls eyes:. I’m not saying one’s better than the other (I haven’t seen either of them so I couldn’t say anyway), but just because she’s the standby doesn’t mean she’s less talented. Julie should be bumped up though to full-time… I wonder who will take over for Kerry when she leaves in Nov.

Those things can easily be changed/ re-negotiated. She's expressed a desire to stay, so who knows.

I do think that after this stint, if she wants to play the role full-time in SOME company, she'll have the opportunity to do so. The producers won't pass up the opportunity to promote her again.

"And no one got on another tour/Broadway Elphie who missed multiple shows per week on a regular basis. I'm not going to say her name because last time I did I was absolutely reamed for it."

Just to be clear I was NOT referring to SJB or Levy...yes, they had horrible attendance records as well. But it wasn't who I was originally referring to.

And I will say that this role is a total speed race for any actress that takes it on. I mean, her first song is basically a 10 o'clock number and she has two more coming up in the show. So I can see if sickness befalls them they want to call out.

But when I brought up this other actress before just mentioning how she was always out (at least on tour) I got so many hateful IMs it was remarkable. I get it...it's a tough role. And if you're sick...fine. But she missed an amazing amount of performances...at least when she was in my city. I did enjoy seeing her standby, Victoria Matlock though.

That should be enough re: What's the deal with Kerry?
(And I did eventually see her...and liked her re: What's the deal with Kerry?

I think most of SJB's issues with attendance were unavoidable. (injuries, the wedding, the strike)
As for Julia Murney and/or Shoshana Bean, whichever you refer to, I do not know about Shoshana, but Julia had a great record when she moved to Broadway.

And Katie Adams. Wow. That's long overdue. I think she'd be perfect fit in London.

winston89, since when is "singing the score" half-assing it?

I haven't actually seen her perform so for all I know she could be half-assing it, but I would be inclined to think that taking out riffs is more about saving her voice while sick than not caring about the performance.

i hope kerry gets better and i also agree with sjb's absences. also i am still amazed that i just read that katie has been standby since 05', so that is when megan hilty left right?. i hope she gets her chance to be full time glinda, but havent read anything about her covering the role when she did. all the glindas seem to have a wonderful attendance for their runs.

julie is amazing, and i agree she should get her chance for full time elphie. stnadbys and understudies are as much talented or sometimes much better than the full time person who is playing that role.

The ironic thing about the idiotic standby comment is that Kerry Ellis, who that poster claimed "had" to be better because she was the regular, began her association with Wicked in the original London cast....as the Elphaba STANDBY for Idina Menzel.

So, yeah.

I made the original comment and stand by it and yes I know Kerry Ellis starting as the US in London, I live in the UK for goodness sake and the point is at that time she was not ready for full time Elphie, hence why Idina was brought it, then when Kerry was ready she took over and kicked the arse off of every Elphaba there has ever been since!!!
As for being a kid, actually I am 25 years old and a school teacher, entitled like everyone else to my opinion!!! And you were being harsh on Kerry and I am not saying she will read this because she won't but she will know people will be getting on her back, just like they did when she took over from Idina. That's what makes her sick half the time, ignorant people complaining and moaning when she is trying her best.
At the end of the day they wanted Kerry not Julie for the role, that speaks for itself!!!

actually, katie took over FOR megan as standby when megan was upgraded...if kate reinders hadn't bugged the producers to take her to broadway, katie would have replaced megan...but she's been the standby since then with i think a 6 month leave in 07 because wasnt ali mauzzey standby a little bit?

the point is at that time she was not ready for full time Elphie, hence why Idina was brought it, then when Kerry was ready she took over

Idina was "brought in" because she was the show's original Tony-award winning star from Broadway, and the producers wanted to open the show with a "bang" that bringing the Tony award winner over would cause. She didn't leave when Kerry was "ready." She was contracted for four months, and couldn't stay longer because her visa was expiring.

Kerry...kicked the arse off of every Elphaba there has ever been since!!!

You've seen them all? Every single one? If not, how can you make such a statement? Hyperbole much?

And you were being harsh on Kerry and I am not saying she will read this because she won't but she will know people will be getting on her back,

As others have also pointed out, no one is being harsh. We're telling it like it is.

That's what makes her sick half the time, ignorant people complaining and moaning when she is trying her best.

You've spoken with her about this? You know that people on a message board is what is making her ill? Seems a bit odd to me. If Kerry is making herself sick over what people write on a message board (which I HIGHLY doubt, by the way), then she's in the WRONG business.

At the end of the day they wanted Kerry not Julie for the role, that speaks for itself!!!

Again with the hyperbole. You've spoken with David Stone? You know this is who he wanted? You do understand that oftentimes performers negotiate these sorts of engagements into their contracts, right? For all we know, when Ellis signed on to do the role in London she and her agent negotiated this six month stint on Broadway, and the producers are now fulfilling it.

*****

Mauzey did cover the role for awhile. Also, the funny thing about Katie Adams being discussed in this thread, is that, if the rumors from another thread are true, she's going to be leaving shortly to become part of the touring cast of Legally Blonde as Enid.
