What's the deal with Kerry?

I saw Julie yesterday and she was fantabulous. I hope to see her as the next Broadway Elphaba.

And Re:Katie Adams not being promoted, she's in the same boat as Saycon Sengbloh...if she's been standby for this long, she probably likes where she is.

Same with Lisa Brescia (although she is the principle in Chicago now, but only for 3 months). She enjoys being a standby.

Man this thread is filled with crazy kerry fans defending her. She doesnt need to be defeneded people. She is ill, she is having ALOT of trouble keeping her stamina up to do a full week of shows. Its simple as that. I'm suprised no wacked out Kerry fan girl has made the arguement that Julie Reiber is poisining Kerry just to go on.
Also, just a side-note, went to a performence of Kerry Ellis as Elphaba in NY recently, and she was great, but at SD, ALOT of her fan girls I wanted to bitch-slap so hard across their faces

I am Kerry fan and thought she was great, but if Julie was on I would have happily seen her. I admit I was one of ones defending her, but now realize that the defending/hate comments are getting very excessive. Both Kerry and Julie are very talented, even though I've never seen Julie live, but from videos she is amazing. If you get the chance to either of them be glad your seeing a talented individual no matter who the individual is. In closing all I have to say is get well Kerry and break a leg ladies.

"the point is at that time she was not ready for full time Elphie, hence why Idina was brought it, then when Kerry was ready she took over

Idina was "brought in" because she was the show's original Tony-award winning star from Broadway, and the producers wanted to open the show with a "bang" that bringing the Tony award winner over would cause. She didn't leave when Kerry was "ready." She was contracted for four months, and couldn't stay longer because her visa was expiring."

Have to second that--and add that (as I understood it) KE was contracted when the show opened to be standby while IM was in London and to take over full-time when IM left. (So not an issue of taking over the role when she was "ready".)

Sorry to hear she is still ill. I've seen her multiple times (and think she is marvelous) but it's a shame she hasn't taken the time off to really get well, and totally understandable that people are frustrated and/or annoyed. I expect she's gutted over it herself. (No, I don't know her, but she has a sterling reputation in West End theatre and from all accounts she will be feeling just terrible about missing shows.)

Speaking of Katie Adams. Does anyone know how many times she's has gone on in the past 3 or so years? I know of once with Kendra last Saturday. A couple of other times last year with Julia. When Annaleigh was here she didn't go on at all I don't think.

Quick question, why would somebody choose to be the standby? Most standbys in most shows use the standby as "paying dues" so that they can one day be lead. Forgive me if I'm being ignorant, but why would someone choose to not be promoted?

We all know Wicked seems to like to do the recycling program, and being a broadway standby seems to be a dead end job as of late, but I always figured the standby didn't get promoted due to the recycling program, not of their own choosing. Someone please enlighten me...

Lisa has said that she liked being a standby because it allowed her to do different projects.

With Wicked, the money is very good, apparently. Aside from that, Brescia has said she likes performing the role around once a week, because it's not too taxing on her voice, and she gets to work on other projects. She has also mentioned being in school to study Spanish, but I don't know if she's still doing that.

Lindsay was only ever on 5 or 6 times and 4 of those times was this May. Maybe you are think of Heather Spore?

I'd say Katie has been on at least 80 times? Kate Reinders has a pretty abysmal attendance record and I've seen Katie twice, neither time did I know she'd be on.

^I saw Heather Spore with SJB in March. How long has she been in the show as the u/s? I think she's only been on like 3 times in the last year and a half, or something like that.

^Wow. I think she's only been on as Glinda like 6 times total or something crazy like that. I'm kinda glad I saw her because it's such a rare thing. She was pretty good. And very nice at the stage door.

a lot of women who play glinda and elphaba are extremly nice people, in fact, broadway stars in general are extremly nice, i dont think they would cast someone too cocky because it would take away from the show. anywho, back to what i was going to say, ive heard great stories of heather's stage door meetings. the only ones ive heard bad stories are idina, snubbing people off, a few of kendra including someone seeing her at subway at a tour stop, and she put up her finger to her mouth in the "shh" motion because there were wicked fan girls (WHO I HATE) and shoshana, but shoshana just apparently has a trucker mouth...o, and megan sikora? shes just rude

"Anyone know if Kerry is on tonight?"

Kerry returned for the Friday nite show- it was my first time seeing Wicked, and she was fantastic- her voice absolutely soared, her energy was great, the energy of the cast was great and Aaron is adorable as ever. Seeing her at stage door after the show, she seemed very happy and was exceptionally nice. I was thrilled to see her perform.

I saw Kerry a few weeks ago. Her performance was so lackluster.
Kendra was the best one up there, as was Jayne.

Apparently Kerry called out the next day, but she didn't look sick... just looked bored.

Calm yourselves.

Regardless to her health and what she's like as a person, think about it; she's a successful leading actress who has achieved landing one of the biggest roles for a woman on the West End, and now Broadway...the mecca of Musical Theatre.

Is it likely that she's just bunking off because she can't be bothered?

She's clearly under the weather. It's unfortunate, yes, but unavoidable.

I'm sure if she could, she would be on stage. What else is there to really discuss on the matter?
