What songs from each show do you think they will do at the Tony's?
I think Something Rotten will do Welcome to the Renaissance. They should do "Musical" instead. I k now it's long, but they could do a cut. Does anyone know if they cut the quartet that was in the second act. It was there the night I was there, but I heard they cut it. I loved that song.
What about the other nominated musicals? What songs do you think they will do?

With so many nominees, I think American in Paris will do a mashup. Probably I've Got Rhythm/S'Wonderful and maybe part of the final ballet.

Take it with a grain of salt, but Riedel said in a column that Something Rotten is doing Welcome to the Renaissance. If that's the case, I think it's a good choice as it's the catchiest number in the show. A Musical works in the theatre, but as Aladdin showed last year, a showstopper in the theatre doesn't work as well when you have to truncate it at the Tonys.

Yes, they did cut Lovely Love out of Something Rotten during previews. The first time I saw the show was about a week and a half before it opened and the song was gone but they must have just cut it out because it was still in the Playbill.
Welcome to the Renaissance will be a good number, but I do think A Musical would be the best choice....granted yes it may not play as well a la Friend Like Me which has been brought up but it is such a joyous number....and I have said on here too that they may want to keep most of the number a secret and that is where the cutting of it would really disservice it.
But yes, Riedel may be right and he may also be very wrong....he is something else, that is for sure.

Why would Fun Home do "days and days" at the tonys?

They have five nominated actors. They can't showcase all of them.

They should do Maple Avenue and find a way to get Lucas to sing Ring of Keys.

I would love to see THE VISIT perform "Look at Me" as it features the entire cast and some gorgeous choral/counterpart singing. But I bet they'll do "Love and Love Alone."

In recent years, if I recall correctly, some shows have elected to do a medley of two songs from their scores. I think that would work well for SOMETHING ROTTEN ("Welcome to the Renaissance" and "Will Power" as best bets for a general audience) and THE VISIT ("You, You, You" and "Love and Love Alone.")

I was thinking You,You,You also. But I'm pretty sure they're going to do Love and Love Alone with maybe a brief intro of At Last to get the company onstage.

I think "You, You, You" is the best choice from "The Visit" from a strictly musical/lyrical standpoint. However, "Yellow Shoes" shows the entire cast and it's upbeat (which is not true of most of the score).
Fun Home really should do "Welcome to Our House on Maple Avenue" (perhaps with some of the Prologue in there). "Welcome to Our House on Maple Avenue" is the music used in the advertising and that will jog people's memories. It also shows the family and that's probably a good thing. It's relatively upbeat and presents the dynamics of the story.
On the Twentieth SHOULD do "Babette".
On the Town-"New York, New York". No question...
The King and I-"Getting to Know You"-show the adorable children with Kelli O'Hara. (Alternatively, "Shall We Dance?")
Something Rotten-"Welcome to the Renaissance" (personally, I'd hold back on the show stopper-it's like giving the best part away (not that I think it's the best part but most people do) into "Will Power". (An alternative is "I Hate Shakespeare/Will Power" medley to show both Borle and D'Arcy James and the two sides of the story.)
An American in Paris-"Stairway to Paradise" with a huge dance break. (Because the dancing is the star of the show here.)

I imagine that The King and I will want to do "Shall We Dance?" in order to showcase their two nominated leads.
Fun Home should do "Welcome to Our House on Maple Avenue." I'd love for them to incorporate "Ring of Keys" in there somewhere, but sadly I doubt it'll happen.

I'm so TIRED of medleys. Unless you have a solid five or ten-minute chunk, as ANNIE did in 1977, they feel like a hodgepodge of nonsense-- even when the good shows do them. I think individual numbers work best and come off strongest, even if they're just duets or solos.
Having said that, FUN HOME will probably do a medley. And I think THE KING AND I will probably do a medley to so they can showcase the adorable kids and the costumes.
I'd love to see THE VISIT do "In the Forest Again", but that spoils the whole evening, doesn't it? So why not "Love and Love Alone?"

I can't imagine why Fun Home would do Maple Avenue when it's an exposition song that is less interesting than literally everything else in the score. I think it will be a medley, though.

Posted: 5/5/15 at 11:47am"You, You, You" is a short duet mainly between Claire and Anton. Some of you may be thinking of my suggestion of "Look At Me" featuring the entire cast and has its own melody intertwined with "You, You, You" and "I Know Claire." It's a very powerful number with beautiful counterpart.

I wonder which minimally-nominated shows are gonna try to get a performance slot.
Someone mentioned Finding Neverland. I guess I could conceivably see Harvey shelling out the money for Finding Neverland do a performance despite its lack of nominations, but it seems kinda unlikely. I wonder if Gigi, with their one nomination, will want to perform.
And what about the Last Ship? A Best Score nomination is a pretty big deal, and they'll probably want to show off Sting's music. I could see them doing the title song, or maybe Show Some Respect.

Wonder if FUN HOME could do a medley with the three Alisons? Start with "Ring of Keys", into a piece of "Changing My Major", and ending with "Telephone Wire". It might give some an idea of the arc of the show and the three ages concept. If done correctly, it might de-mystify it for some people. And it would still save plenty of surprises and not give too much away.
