Definitely Billy Elliot. After that performance I wouldn't buy a ticket but it has some very god word of mouth and big names involved.
I also think Next To Normal will have a big bump, the attendance is going up and up but the grosses are still kind of weak.
Hair will also get a huge bump.

In all seriousness I think Hair got the biggest bump. It was a well-performed, great tune. I also think tourists thought it was something memorable and special when the cast came out to the audience. As if the performance wasn't memorable and spectacular enough, RIGHT after they performed they won the big prize... which made it even MORE memorable. Def. the biggest bump.

N2N and Hair should get the biggest bump. Norman Conquests of course. Rock of Ages will get a bump no doubt. Shrek, maybe. 9 to 5 wasn't in enough. BE can't really do any better, so doubt it was helped (or hurt). Ditto God of Carnage.

Hair
N2N
I don't think the coverage of ANY of the plays will make a difference. There barely acknowledged them. Mores the pity.

HAIR, BILLY, GOD OF CARNAGE, and N2N.
But remember post Tonys week isn't the best precursor of things to come. The fall and winter are not too far behind which is always a fun time for closings.

#12re: Which Show Got The Biggest Post-Tony Bump?
Posted: 6/9/09 at 1:25amYeah, ha, I was looking for more like "so and so got a great advance," rather than "I hate next to normal so i don't think it will"
#13re: Which Show Got The Biggest Post-Tony Bump?
Posted: 6/9/09 at 1:43amWell, if you want actual data re: advances, maybe you should wait for any legitimate media outlet to report on it. Wonderful as BWW is, specific financial information on a show isn't really why you should come here.

Mama Mia was one of thw worst performance and didnt make me want to buy a ticket it was actually the complete opposite of making me buy a ticket.
Hair and N2N made me wonder (especially the crotch thing they did)

Posted: 6/9/09 at 2:51amWell, BWW does carry the weekly grosses. (Or what passes for that data now that the League has decided to change its definitions.) I was just wondering if there was any news already out with actual numbers in it.

Mamma Mia has been out forever and already established an overall positive word of mouth, so the Tony performance won't hurt ticket sales.
I could see the following nominees receiving bumps: Billy Elliot, Hair and Next to Normal; however, I want to wait till I see the numbers over the next few weeks.

I think today would be the EARLIEST we'd hear of anyone bragging about bumps.

If a show puts out a press release stating their box office intake increased yesterday because of the Tonys, you can bet that BWW would run the article.

Posted: 6/9/09 at 7:04amThis an impossible time to prove bumps. The summer season starts this week. So, most shows see increases during the summer with or without Tony exposure.

Posted: 6/9/09 at 11:28amWell I was just wondering if there were any press releases, like when HAIR got it's great reviews, the next day they announced that they had a such-and-such advance. I'm just curious because I have some family coming into town, and I'd like to take them to see HAIR, but I'm not sure if it will be on TKTS this weekend, like it was the past couple of weekends.

Billy Elliot did, I'm sure. My mom really wants to see it now. I have wanted to see N2N for a while, but last night made me really want to go out and buy the CD. I'm sure Hair got a bump well. It is already a wellknown show though.

I bet there will be some disapointed ticket buyers who realize that Elton John is not in BILLY ELLIOT, Dolly Parton is not in NINE TO FIVE and when you fo see ROCK OF AGES you don't get to see Bret Michaels get whacked in the face with a hunk of scenery.
If that last one was true, i might consider buying a ticket.
On the whole I don't think any show ever gets a bump from the TONY telecast, and definitely not in less than 24 hours when this thread was started.
