"She would be FIERCE! "
You know Audra has already done the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd... and yes, she was fierce. in the 2000 Philharmonic concert with George and Patti. I cannot find any video but there is audio of the concert on YouTube and you can always buy the live recording.
Surprised the Phil hasn't released photos of the stage like they did with Carousel last year. Very curious to see what this is going to look like.
So two days before the concert, and there's still no Beggar Woman listed on the Phil's website.

Adele Dazeem.
Bernadette make a cameo!!!!!!! Plz.
I called yesterday to ask about this, and a very friendly man instructed me to call back today when they would have production crew available, so I did. Today I was answered by a not so friendly man who refused to do more than look at their website cast list, which I told him I had already done.
If they are deliberately not announcing it it's probably going to be someone very interesting. Perhaps they are taking a cue from the story and letting the identity of the actor be as mysterious as the identify of the character
Very weird. I can't imagine it's a big name, or they would certainly be using it for publicity.
Exactly. I can't think of many logical explanations:
* They cast the role at the last minute and didn't have time to update the website
* There is a 'directional choice' to try to make the twist less obvious by making the beggar woman less important/part of the ensemble (i.e., not giving a name). But this doesn't make sense because surely it would be in the program
* Sondheim asked Bernadette to do a 'favour', and because Bernadette wanted to play Lovett she doesn't want to take any recognition for her part. (More likely that ROCKY will win the Tony for best score).
I think the first reason is the most likely?
Contractually they would be required to update the website unless that performer asked them not too.
This is only related as an offshoot to the topic, but I wanted to avoid making a new thread if possible - does anyone know where the stage door is for Avery Fisher Hall? Would it be the same as it is for the Vivian Beaumont?
The boyfriend and I would love to meet Emma if she is gracious enough to come out after the performance.

Ah! That would be pretty awesome.

It's totally gonna be Angela Lansbury.
It's gonna be Helena Bonham Carter. Just wait.
Isn't Lansbury in the middle of Blithe Spirit rehearsals in London?
Victoria Clark?

Lansbury was just wishful thinking on my part. Circle of Life and all.
It's gonna be Helena Bonham Carter. Just wait.
THAT would be amazing. She would kill it. (no pun intended)
I wouldn't mind Victoria Clark either.
Angela looks/is too old to be believable as Sweeney's wife.

The stage door is on the south side of 65th Street. When you exit the theater make two rights and go down the steps towards 65th Street and the stage door is immediately on your right.
Clark would be excellent - she could perform the role with her eyes closed considering all the practice she has from "Cinderella", not to mention playing the role before. But surely we would have heard by now if Clark was about to miss a week of Cinderella.
Well Clark has already played the role - she appears in the televised concert version featuring LuPone and Hearn.
My initial thought was Donna Murphy since the announcement of her involvement in any project is usually announced very late.
Oh, Helena Bonham Carter. I'd be pleased.
Thank you, Frogs!

I just called them and it's Bernadette Peters!!!!
Jks. "I don't have that information. It's not in any of our press releases - we have the 7 primary cast members".
If it was Helena Bonham-Carter, I'd be willing to bet they'd have announced it, because her name sure would bring money in.
It might be Clark and they might be keeping it quiet because she's in Cinderella. (I don't know, that's speculation.) I think Rebecca Luker would be a good choice.
I adore Donna Murphy, but does she have the upper register for this role? It's a pretty high role.
