'Shucked,' opening at The Nederlander, used to be called 'Hee Haw.' Why did it change it's name again?
Originally is was called “Moonshine” when it opened in Dallas to mixed reviews in 2015.
I have not seen any news relating to ‘Shucked’ opening at the Nederlander. Is this insider information or just wishful thinking?

I'm not sure if its been announced yet....but it's the next show at Nederlander after Billy closes.
It changed its name because…it changed its name. Genuinely not sure what answer you want from this?
How about bad subject matter? Or a bad title, even? That could kill a show pretty good.

I thought it was called “Shucked: The Hee Haw Musical.” I could be wrong about that, but yes, it’s going to the Nederlander.

Probably because Hee Haw is trademarked and this isn't an officially licensed product? More of an "Inspired By" product.
Every time I hear about this show it sounds like a fake musical within another musical or TV show. Even though it has talented people on the creative team.
Do we know who's in the principal cast?
No cast announced for the run at the Pioneer Theater in SLC. https://pioneertheatre.org/season/2022-2023-season/shucked/
The storyline is highly revised from its incarnation as Moonshine: The Hee Haw Musical.
Why is this getting a Broadway theater??
I caught one of the performances in Dallas. It was sweet, corny and simple, but not Broadway-worthy.
Hey grandpa, what’s for supper?
The show would do very well in Branson.

If you don't understand this question, you're stupid. This person wants to know why a show would change its title multiple times. It's a fair question.

ask that to LITTLE DANCER, I mean MARIE, DANCING STILL, I mean just MARIE. Or MJ, or Breakfast At Tiffany's.

Yeah, I'm sure you could ask the producers why they made those changes and I bet they'd have an answer for you. However that's not the question of THIS thread, smartass.

I have to say Shucked is one of the worst names I’ve ever heard for a Broadway show…right up there with Grind.

As long as this show is called Shucked, I will believe it's a show about oysters. Is it not?

Nice. I hope they all use the bathroom before they get to the theater.

LOL - I'm guessing they've kept the song from the Moonshine version
where the cast sings about being "shucked" by a con man. IIRC, it was just before intermission.
I laughed and then hated myself for it.

Or Wise Guys/Gold!/Bounce/Road Show. Producers and creators do focus groups and polling on these sorts of things. If the title polls badly, they'll want to change it.
Even with the tv pedigree, Shucked is probably a better name than Hee Haw. And with the current cultural divide, maybe they decided a show with an outright country/redneck name brand wouldn’t draw the right audience demographic.

Several stage favorites are set to lead the company of the new Broadway-aimed musical comedy Shucked. The world premiere musical will play Utah's Pioneer Theatre Company from October 28 through November 12. Shucked features a book by Tony winner Robert Horn and a score by Grammy-winning duo Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. Tony winner Jack O'Brien directs.
Leading the cast are Broadway alums John Behlmann as Gordy, Kevin Cahoon as Peanut, Caroline Innerbichler as Maizy, Andrew Durand as Beau, Alex Newell as Lulu, Ashley D. Kelley as Storyteller 1 and Taylor Trensch as Storyteller 2. The ensemble features Miki Abraham, Dwayne Clark, Rheaume Crenshaw, Kaitlyn Davidson, Jaygee Macapugay, Scott Stangland, Esteban Suero, Yasmeen Sulieman, Quinn VanAntwerp and Alan Wiggins.
Shucked proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life.
The creative team includes Sarah O’Gleby as choreographer, Jason Howland as musical supervisor, Scott Pask as scenic designer, Tilly Grimes as costume designer, Japhy Weideman as lighting designer, John Shivers as sound designer, Daniel Edmonds as musical director/conductor and Mia Neal as hair and wig designer. Michelle Bosch is production stage manager.

Tagline from the show website: What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn.
Shucked Pioneer Theatre Company
I have to say, that's some pretty ugly show art on their page, I hope it's only temporary. The cast shows some promise though, excited to see Alex and Taylor creating new roles.
Maybe this show will surprise me and be very entertaining, like Xanadu. I remember, with regard to the latter musical, thinking that nothing could make me like an adaptation of such ridiculous source material. Boy, was I wrong. Similarly, I suppose it's possible that I'll like a musical based on Hee-Haw, even though I hate Hee-Haw.
who is the commercial producer attached to this??
