Why hasn't Idina done anything since Wicked?

I know she isn't the most popular person on here but many people including me think she is talented. Why hasn't she been on Broadway since Wicked? Its not like she isn't marketable.

She has a pretty lucrative career as a concert and recording artist. Also, her husband and child are based in LA, so I would assume that she wouldn't want to commit to a new Broadway show that would take her away from her family for six months to a year unless she really believed in it.

AC126748 hit the nail on the head. She is a mom now, her family doesn't live in New York, and she does a lot of concert appearances instead. Those are the three most obvious reasons anyway.

SteelPierFan - you need to know that there is more to theatre than Broadway.

She's done MANY things since WICKED:

She starred in SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE.
She appeared on the TV series PRIVATE PRACTICE.
She starred in the feature film adaptation of RENT.
She had a role in the movie musical ENCHANTED.
She appeared on numerous episodes of GLEE.

Who is willing to bet that her paychecks from ENCHANTED surpassed her income from all her years doing WICKED combined?

But Idina isn't really a big person outside of Broadway so she probably didn't get a big paycheck. She also actually hasn't done much though.

Even if she didn't get a large salary in comparison to what bigger named actors get, it was STILL probably more than she was getting paid for Wicked.

I think that Steel Pier Fan understands that there is more to theatre than Broadway.

Look, it was a simple question. It got answered. It's a valid question. Cheno's done a couple of Broadway gigs since then, so why not Idina? Answer: Husband, TV and concert gigs, and kid. Geez...everything has to turn into a power play.

Actually her residuals alone for Enchanted are probably more than she got for her entire run of Wicked, and that keeps paying.

Even if she didn't get a large salary in comparison to what bigger named actors get, it was STILL probably more than she was getting paid for Wicked.

Idina Menzel appeared in a film where she had more than five lines. That means that she has made a LOT of money, probably much higher than her starring Broadway contract gave her over the course of the entire run.

It has nothing to do with not "being a big person outside of Broadway." It's a simple fact that film/TV is able to pay their actors a MUCH HIGHER salary than any stage production could ever offer. Plus, the amount of TIME it took to do ENCHANTED (probably less than one month combined after learning the part, filming, and any publicity appearances) was significantly less than the YEARS she committed to WICKED.

These are the reasons why you often see Hollywood stars praise Broadway performers. Julia Roberts said it best.

She was also in ASK THE DUST with Colin Farrell and Salma Hayek.

She has a TV pilot in the works with ABC which sounds like a musicalized Gilmore Girls, and there are rumors she will return in GLEE in Season 3.

She wants to find the right show, she almost committed to LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, and those who saw it know she made the right choice.
