Does anyone know why Nessarose’s “Wicked Witch of the East” song is NOT on the cast recording? It is such an important point in the story because its one of the few times we see the incredible power Nessa. Also how she is corrupted and “wicked” in a completely different and selfish way than Elphaba. Not to mention, it is the only moment in the entire show that ties Nessa to the famed witch lying beneath the house with the nice red shoes. Why was this left off?
There are many threads on this, but the reason why it was cut was because there were too many spoilers in that song.

probably because it would reveal too much. the actual CD doesnt even have a synopsis of the show, probably for the same reason..not wanting to reveal any spoilers! and probably b/c most of it is dialogue. but i have often wondered the same question b/c it is a wonderful song. i say give michelle federer her chance to shine!!
She is corrupted becaause she robbed the Munchkins of their rights.
and that's some search you did.
Yankeesfan beat me, but I was going to say the same thing. That it is a shame it isn't there cause Nessa doesn't sing that much and it would have been nice to add it. but, whatever.

I never fully understood why they chose to include "March of the Witch Hunters" on the recording if they were trying to avoid spoilers...
Good point Collen! And isn't a OCR supposed to include the majority of the story... in which case the WW of the East song is CRUCIAL! And as far as the dialouge in it- a lot of the other songs have it too, and it's just left out, or only a small part of it (like dancing thorugh life, popular).
They could have just added it as a bonus track and put a disclaimer on it like they did on the DRS CD saying "don't listen if you don't want to know." And really, with digital music and all, putting the song back in place on your own mix/ipod is a piece of cake.

I don't buy the spoilers excuse. Many shows have been recorded that have spoilers in the music (MIss Saigon; Phantom; Sunset Blvd; Caroline, or Change; Les Miserables; RENT). I think it may have been a space issue, though the Dr. Dillamond song should have been eliminated, by far the worst song in the show.
I don't buy the Dialogue excuse either. "Assassins" is just one of the many cast recordings that has dialogue tracks.

Did you not read mine??? There are many shows where tracks are pure dialogue: "Assassins" and "Sunset Boulevard" are two of them.

No, it's not.
WWotE contained a lot of spoilers, so they left it off of the CD. And the dialogue was part of it, but I don't really see that as an excuse.
And you really couldn't find anything on this when you did a search?

Is this really worth arguing about? Bottom line is they decided not to include it, big deal, download it.
I have to agree with Colleen about the MotWH thing. Although they might have figured not everyone would catch on?

A lot of the songs on the Wicked CD are obviously spoilers though, not just March of the Witch Hunters.
I had the CD first, and I figured out Fiyero became the Scarecrow just because the songs he sings in it say that he's brainless--and we've all seen the Wizard of Oz.
And then yeah, March of the Witch Hunters...
I really wish they would have put the WW of the east song on it. Spoilers or not! I wanted it to be spoiled!~
Honestly if they recorded it onto the CD I think it would be a waste of space. I would honestly just be like .. what the hell is this. You buy a CD for music not talking. Its not a big deal they didnt include it. Big Deal. If you dont "BUY" it that the reason they didnt put it on was because of the dialouge and spoilers what the hell do you want? It came from Stephen Shwartz saying that. Do you want some other excuse? Its the mother f'n truth. But I mean.. we could always say that the reason that the track didnt get on the cd was because the flying monkeys and the wheelie monkeys from Return To Oz had a scruffle down in the Emerald City and it was on lock down for quite some time, so Idina And Kristin were already in the studio and werent effected, so by the time Michelle got out of the Emerald city and pranced her way down the yellow brick road to the studio down in Munchkinland, a huge windstorm occured and a house landed on her and the producers were all like "what the ****" and they decidded not to record it because Michelles vocal cords were out for sometime. and They needed the cd out to get so they could go buy more Winkie Beer. Like honestly? What the hell more do you want in an excuse?
THEY DIDNT RECORD IT ON TO THE CD, ITS OVER ITS DONE THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.
Dude, calm down. We're just discussing.
I think the whole spoiler thing is very lame. A cast recording is supposed to be a recorded representaion of the show.

And as I've said, there are MANY shows that have "spoilers" in the songs, so that is a rather lame excuse. And don't most shows have a plot summary in the booklet that you get with the recording anyway, so their is a definite spoiler there as well.
