re: Wicked Question

Remember in the Wizard of Oz the guys with the fuzzy hats that guard the Wicked Witch's castle? The ones who have that really bizarre chant? Those are Winkies.

re: Wicked Question

Those were Winkie Gurads. The Winkies are the people who live in the Western region of Oz.

re: Wicked Question

The region, I believe, is called the Vinkus.

I could be wrong, though.

re: Wicked Question

You, robbiej? Wrong? I wouldn't hear of it.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

re: Wicked Question

No, you're right. In the book that's where Elphaba goes to talk to Fiyero's wife. I forget her name, though.

re: Wicked Question

It was made up by the author, which it's probably why you never heard of it before.

re: Wicked Question

It took me a minute to figure out he had blue diamonds on the side of his face. And is it me or does Elphaba look much greener in SF? Maybe they changed the make-up?

In the OZ books the Tin Woodman rules Winkie Country and the witch dies.
So my dear you think you can get to Broadway. Well, let me tell you something. Broadway has no room for people like you. Not the Broadway I know. My Broadway takes people like you and eats them up and spits them out. My Broadway is the Broadway of Merman, and Martin, and Fontaine, and if you think you can build yourself up by knocking other people down... ...GOOD LUCK... Seinfeld

re: Wicked Question

Winkies were also the name of certain Ensemble member in The Wiz--I was one once.

And also in the stage version of The Wizard of Oz that I did, some kids played Winkies as well as Munchkins. I was Glinda!
