I've heard mixed reviews about the "Wicked" book. Do you guys recommend reading it??

The book has some major differences from the musical...just like most page to stage/screen adaptations.

Both are great, just different. You need to learn to like them as seperate stories.
I enjoyed the book a lot, but it was...different. I think he (Gregory Maguire(sp?)) went into detail in places which he didn't need to. It was a little long, but so was Les Miserables.
On the whole, though, I liked it, and definately recommend it.
I didn't finish the book b/c I thought it was a little long, but then again I rented it, and I'm incredibly busy starting a career. I also read it after the seeing the show, and I couldn't get over the differences.

That ladies and gentlemen is the reason why Kristin Chenoweth leaves July 18th
Yes, read the book
But realize it's different than the play
Just like the movie The Wizard of Oz is really different from the book
The have the same basic characters but very different scenarios.
Fiyero and Nessarose in particular have changed dramatically from the novel (both physically and characteristically)
Biggest stuff you should be aware of:
The clock dragon "Ozwald" is explained in detail
The whole 1st section of the book is about Elphaba's parents from when she's born to when she's two
Fiyero has a wife and kids
Madame Morrible's part in the show is divided by the characters of Madame Morrible and Yackle
Ok that's all I can say with saying too much.
Oh, and that the book's great : )

I loved the book. Read it before I saw the show and highly recommend it.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
I read the book before I saw the show. IMO, the book is better, story-wise. But there's a lot in the book that is very different from the show - political type of stuff - that probably wouldn't bode well for a musical. But read it!!

Hated it. Doesn't matter. You should read it if you want to. But don't expect the same story as the musical. Except for the characters and some of the locations, they don't match.

The book's incredibly different from the show, it's amazing how they pulled that musical out of it...I can't say I like one more than the other, because they're hard to compare. I recommend reading it before you see the show. I read about 2/3 before I saw it, and finished it afterwards; I had a hard time not visualizing characters etc. as they were onstage after I saw it.
Thank you, you guys- I'm probably getting it tomorrow. =-D
Love the book. Read it twice. Will be seeing the show in July.
I'm in the process of reading it now...so far it's been pretty interesting to see what happens before Dorothy. I can't wait to see the show soon!!! =D
