Since frozen moving into the st james do you think that maybe Something rotten would wanna go into a smaller theater? The show is still making a lot of money every week so im sure the producers wanna keep it going. Just an idea.

Something Rotten will be LONG gone by the Spring of 2018. There will be another tenant between them and Frozen as well.

I still don't understand why Frozen would go into the St. James. Disney normally has a great business relationship with the Nederlanders and the St. James is not a Nederlander house.

why the assumption that Frozen has any theater lined up? Things aren't usually contracted this far out. ESPECIALLY because they can't guarantee that SR will be gone. (Although I agree it likely will.)
(I admit, it's possible this WAS announced, but I am doubtful.)

Depends on the replacement cast but Rotten may last longer than many think. I think it will outlast Fun who beat it for Best Musical . Time will tell.

I would guess that SOMETHING ROTTEN will be gone by Jan. 2017, with Midler's HELLO DOLLY coming in the Spring, doing a 6-8 month run, and closing out before FROZEN takes over.

I am sure that Dolly is planned as an open ended engagement...the budget will be large, the original show practically invented the concept of star replacements...and there are certainly a lot of people who could do this when Midler leaves. I would be shocked if that is not the plan.
i will also be (almost) shocked in Something Different lasts past January 2017. I loved it and have always been surprised that it is not a bigger hit.

The BWW article did say that Frozen will play the St. James.
I don't see Rotten being around for another two-ish years. It just doesn't seem likely.

It would have been a blockbuster if it won Best Musical. I thought it deserved it but it did not win.It will have a long and healthy life on tour.

Dolly has been rumored, first by Riedel, then in other threads by others working/friends with someone working on the show to be going into the St. James prior to Frozen.

There was an article and diagram in The Times about renovating The Helen Hayes and adding space to the stage at The St. James. That kind of work would take some time since an exterior wall would be breeched.

You don't announce a Broadway production unless you have a theater in place, and none of the Nederlander houses were available to be booked when Disney was ready to announce the production:
The Palace has a current tenant (An American in Paris). Once that show closes, the theater is going to be elevated, so it is not available.
Cats has been booked into the Neil Simon for performances starting in July. Because it is booked as an open run, the theater was not available.
Likewise, the Nederlander (Disaster!) and the Brooks Atkinson (Waitress) theaters were booked with shows with open runs. And neither show had started previews yet, making these theaters unavailable.
On Your Feet at the Marquis and Finding Neverland at the Lunt-Fontanne are open runs. Assuming The Post's Page 6 is correct about Frozen going into the St. James, I imagine neither show had met the requirements that would allow the Nederlander's to have invoked the stop-clause, nor had either of them announced a closing notice.
Do I need to mention The Minskoff (The Lion King), Gershwin (Wicked) and Richard Rogers (Hamilton)?

Everyone keeps saying this, every single day, with every single Frozen thread but it's not going to change whether or not they take a Nederlander house. Plain and simple.

Disaster is not an open-run. Motown will be taking its place this summer, which I could see running for a while in a theater of that size. Even if it were available, though, the Nederlander is likely much too small for what Disney has in the works for Frozen.
Otherwise, you're absolutely correct in pointing out that the ideal Nederlander theaters for this show are otherwise occupied. I could see Finding Neverland closing up shop before Frozen is due to come in but acknowledging that by offering the Lunt-Fontanne to Disney would most definitely not sit well with Harvey Weinstein.

By only two years in advance?

Yes. You don't know what's going to happen in that time. Disney can go through all the trouble of script-writing, costume design, set building, casting and booking the out-of-town try out, and then find themselves homeless on Broadway because everything is booked. The second you know you're coming in, you book the house.Contrary to popular belief, there are no lack of bookings on Broadway. There are lists of shows waiting for a theater to open up. Many Shubert houses have limited runs, but you can bet they already have tenants lined up, even if they aren't announced. You don't honestly think the Shubert Theatre didn't have a tenant lined-up before Matilda's closing was announced? And it'll be at least 10 months before another show can move in.

Motown is also running as a limited engagement.
