I assume by advance sales you mean you've looked at the seating chart on Telecharge. You'd need to look at every performance to get a good sense of how sales are. And even then you'd only have a rough idea of % sold not the dollar amount. Looking at a few or even a few dozen performances isn't a large enough sample size to draw a conclusion from.

Not unless they offer discounted tickets for demographics group that actually cares for Alanis Morisette's songs, in my opinion. I'm in my late 30s so I care, because I grew up listening to her music. I really hope those tickets will wind up at TKTS or even TDF, so I can afford to see it eventually. Especially with so many promising and exciting new shows coming up, not too many people are able to see them all. As much as I'd love to see the Jagged Little Pill, it's not a priority. Steep full price of the tickets being the main reason.

I think the bigger issue is: Did they fix what many felt was overstuffed, etc., at ART, and turn it into a tight, focused property worth seeing.
Secondary to that (although, ultimately connected) is can they sell enough tickets.
If the show sucks, or isn't worth one's theater dollars, then whether people go or they make their money back is somewhat irrelevant...

My prediction is that this will have a similar trajectory to American Idiot, rather than a Beautiful. Perhaps a bit of a healthier run than AI, but similar.

it will be gone by end of next summer if not sooner.
they are selling this on Diablo Cody (who hasn't had a real big hit since Juno) and Alanis Morssette who hasnt had a new album in 7 years.....also there are zero names in the cast, they are also weirdly selling this as RENT (which has become kind of a joke these days) meets Next To Normal (which while amazing never really set the box office on fire)
i think a fall opening is a mistake as well...

If it isn't-- Well, Mamma Mia made the move to the Broadhurst from the Winter Garden.. It would be a decent move for Beetlejuice/the Shuberts when Music Man is ready to load into the Winter Garden late next summer/early fall...
I know Beetlejuice will need to do some scenic/staging adjustments to fit in a smaller space, but so far they have been able to keep steady at/over $1M/week, if they keep those numbers up, a move to the Broadhurst would make sense.
If they dip into the $700k range in the winter/spring...well...

I honestly can’t imagine Beetlejuice running long enough to justify a move to a theatre that small. There are too many scenic and design elements that would have to be cut or SEVERELY adjusted and that could be a detriment to the show itself to accommodate the smaller space. My guess is that they will have a run that lasts probably through Tony time next year at the latest.
Based on responses from friends and the reviews from out of town, barring a 180 by the critics, I think this show has enough traction to last up to Tony time next year and pick up a few nods. They are also opening late into the fall, which means they can get the buzz for the Christmas holidays for those who are looking for something new.

Next to Normal recouped its investment. Jagged Little Pill could only hope to do so.

The tickets for January are so expensive! I can't seem to find any discount code, but typically prices go down in January. Just the new normal for Broadway tickets. Ouch.

Based on the sold-out production at ART, I think the first few months will see healthy grosses. But their fan base was pretty young, I think? I think it will be like Be More Chill, that once those who can afford to see it once do so, it may see a dip in ticket sales. I'm not sure how long I see this running for. I've seen a lot of people who are fans of Kathryn Gallagher, and I know there's a strong fan base for Derek Klena, and Elizabeth Stanley has gotten raves. They may keep the show running for at least a year, but I'm not sure what will happen after the Tonys. It's honestly anyones guess.

I was just going to say that it has a wider demographic due to Alanis’s appeal across generations probably more so than Cher or Donna Summer or Jimmy Buffett or The Go-Go’s. Definitely more than be More Chill. Still remains to be seen if this is a success like Ain’t Too Proud/Mamma Mia/Beautiful/Jersey Boys or a flop like those based on the artists listed above. It is notable that of those successful jukebox musicals, only Mamma Mia wasn’t a bio-musical. Advance sales/prices are encouraging signs though at least for its early success, if not for my pocketbook.

I also can't help but wonder if they have rush, how that will affect their grosses. People who lined up/camped out at ART may do the same thing on Broadway. But who knows? We'll see.

I’d think rush would have a negligible effect on grosses. I mean both successful and unsuccessful shows have rush. Plus if rush lines are huge, that would be a sign of great word-of-mouth/enthusiasm for the show plus great free advertising. If you can’t tell, I’m really hoping for this to be a success. My three favorite jukebox musicals (American Idiot, Moulin Rouge!, and, to a lesser extent, Mamma Mia) are not bio-musicals. Of course, it depends on whether they’ve fine-tuned the story. I’m also excited for Tina so I suppose it also is about being a fan of both artists’ musical output. Of course, I also love Donna Summer’s music and loved some of Cher’s, but reported problems with the books kept me away. At this point however, I don’t think anything could keep me away from JLP or Tina.

Oh I'm totally with you!! I hope it's a success as well! On a whim I bought a ticket to the ART production, and as soon as it was over I was like, this better transfer to Broadway!! I'm so so thrilled that it's coming. Are you seeing it this month?
