In February of 2017 there was a one night concert performance of Susan Stroman's Crazy for You at Lincoln Center to mark its 25th anniversary. My expectations were not that high, but it turned out to be a pretty magical night for the audience which included many of Stroman's friends and colleagues. You can catch some of the energy in this extended curtain call.

Stroman workshopped the show in January with the same stars Tony Yazbeck and Laura Osnes. Held auditions, pitched it to producers.
I haven't read a word about it since an Osnes tweet around March that she was waiting and hoping. So I guess it isn't going to happen. It was fluff, but very well done fluff, with a very appealing Tony Yazbeck in the middle of it. I was told that often it is just a case of being able to find a vacant theater.

I left out a major twist in the story of Crazy for You. It was booked at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for a "pre-Broadway run" from February 7–March 8, 2018. This was cancelled due to "scheduling difficulties."
Others can better speculate as to what went wrong.

Hopefully, both Crazy for You and Dreamgirls comes in.
Has there been any word about Unsinkable Molly Brown?

Dreamgirls & The Secret Garden are happening. I'm hoping Crazy For You happens as well. Might just be lack of available theaters.

Posted: 8/5/18 at 10:46amIf there are three eligible play revivals and three eligible musical revivals, there are two categories (Revival of a Play, Revival of a Musical). If there aren’t, it’s just one category (Revival of a Play or Musical).

Crazy for You is propably one of the few shows where scheduling conflicts is true and isn’t code for we couldn’t get the money together.
The show was going to be sold on the backs of Rachel Bloom, Rachel Dratch, and Jerry O’Connell. Considering Ms Bloom is the star and head writer for Crazy Ex Girlfriend her schedule is very tight. There was debate on this board whether her involvement in the revival spelled doom for Crazy Ex Girlfriend, especially when it was thought to have a fall 2019 opening. As its going into its final season the show should wrap production by February, so Crazy for You could still open this season. The Gershwin estate is also desperate for a revival of Crazy for You to rebuild hype in the show before the Gershwin catalog starts going into public domain in 2020, with all of their stage musicals in public domain by 2028. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they coughed up the money themselves to finance a revival.
