I saw "Big River" when it came through Denver and was pretty much blown away! I hope I have a chance to see this production also. Congrats Erika. Is there any talk of taking this to New York or a tour? (Pre-B'way?!) After hearing about your voice, I now want to hear it live! And on a side note...I did go to your site and you are georgeous!!!! Congrats again!

What we'd need is a PBS broadcast.
Doing a cast recording of anything by Deaf West really does not do justice to a great many of the people involved with the show.

Just a reminder that Sleeping Beauty Wakes has been extended, and there are still good seats available!
Here's the blurb I just received from TheaterMania.com:
World Premiere Musical
SLEEPING BEAUTY WAKES
EXTENDED BY POPULAR DEMAND
through May 20th
“A brilliant entertainment in three dimensions…
extraordinary performances.”
Laurence Vittes, The Hollywood Reporter
After her centuries long snooze, Beauty wakes to find herself far from her fairy tale kingdom in a contemporary sleep-disorder center, where all the princes seem to have disappeared!
As they did with Big River, Director Jeff Calhoun and Deaf West Theatre craft a unique musical featuring both deaf and hearing actors along with the indie pop/rock sensation GrooveLily to create a distinctively theatrical musical event.
“Jeff Calhoun… has been deservedly praised for his contribution to the form and continues to push for innovation and aesthetic excellence. A lovely theatrical tumble…all that’s required is a willingness to go on a fantastic journey.”
Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times
Last chance to see this delightful twist on Grimms’ classic fairy tale. 2 Weeks Remain.

Through May 20th
Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 8pm; Saturday 2:00pm & 8:00pm; Sunday 2:00pm & 7:00pm

"...treat yourself to a great night of live, original theater."
Exactly, SB. I just came back from the matinee today, and I found the show highly original and refreshing. Erika is a real knockout (wow, what a voice!) in an ensemble full of talented knockouts.
For those of you out there tired of the same old same-old, take the plunge and see "Sleeping Beauty Wakes." A non-traditional show with excellent music and powerhouse singer/musicians performing it. I spent some time after the show with the lovely Erika, and she told me there are still great seats available for the extension dates.
It's your chance to see Ms. Amato before she "hits it big." I say that's worth the price of admission alone.

Just a post to remind you LA types that there's only one week left to catch the show! (We extended, so we close next Sunday, the 20th.) There are still good seats available for the extension week - particularly on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

I had the pleasure of seeing this last night and it was definitely a wonderful experience. Erika, I must say, you were all wonderful. The staging, the voices, the music, the performances, I enjoyed every aspect of the show.

Well, we're closing today, and I must say, we're going out with a bang. The audiences have been just fantastic this whole extension week, and the show is really firing on all cylinders.
I'm sad that it's ending, but this has truly been one of the greatest theatrical experiences of my life, and for that, I am extremely grateful. Thanks to everyone in the cast, crew, and creative team for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful show.
