After Imelda in Seasons five and six. Anyone think Helen Mirren would reconsider taking up the Crown one more time.
Updated On: 11/21/19 at 08:54 PMThis seems like an off topic question.
I was always hoping a season would end leading perfectly into The Queen, with Helen finishing in the final season.
"Helen Mirren rules out replacing Olivia Colman on The Crown." She has discussed this in several interviews.

BWW has an article asking if Imelda Staunton takes over in seasons 5 & 6. Ugh.

Hmm... how far do people expect The Crown to go? Season 4 will probably cover a good chunk if not all of the 80’s. Season 5 will probably be about the 90’s and her children’s marital woes. Season 6 could cover the early 2000’s and wrap up a lot of “storylines”— the death of her mother and sister, Charles and Camilla’s marriage, maybe Will meeting Kate and securing the future of the monarchy. If they go much beyond that, then they’re in a worse bind than the producers of Game of Thrones.
I think the third person to play Queen Elizabeth II will be the final person. And I’m not convinced by the Daily Mirror that that person is Imelda Staunton.
I suspicions when they have done exploiting the past (Up to and including Andy Spandy's adventures) they will go.... into the future. Specifically Operation London Bridge w a montage of all the big events and then leading up to Chucks coronation showing men and women, kings and queens, they come and go, but The Crown Endures!

I can't find it right now, but when Netflix greenlit the show it was mentioned to be a seven season arc, with roughly one season per decade of the Queen's reign (give or take a few years, as with Season 1, of course).
I’m sure the original plan was to have six seasons but given all that’s happened recently with Prince Andrew and the drama surrounding Meghan I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix squeezed another season or two out of the show featuring a much older Queen than what Staunton can portray.
Mirren is not returning, thankfully. We’ve all seen that performance on film and stage. Imelda Staunton is allegedly next in line, but that’s all conjecture. Season four, which is Olivia Colman’s final run, is nearing the end of production but won’t air for another year. So, I wouldn’t expect an announcement anytime soon.

Judy Dench please, I dont think she has played Elizabeth II as yet.
Netflix released a statement regarding Staunton. She ain’t been cast, yo.

As for Helen, there's certainly a reason she's played the Queen a few times, and she was brilliant in all of them. But I'm also ready for someone else also. And yes, the intention was a 6 season show, but I also wouldn't be supposed if there came to be possibly one more. We have two seasons of Olivia and then 2 with Imelda, and depending on when seasons 5 and 6 are replanned to drop (Good grief, I hope they don't wait 2 years in between again...) we very well may have enough for a possible 7. Hell, maybe even 8.
EDIT-Never mind, this isn't official, HOWEVER she is in talks for it.
It's a business driven by contracts. The ink ain't dry yet, so there is nothing to announce, hence that press release from Netflix. Trust and believe she is a finalist to replace Colman.
The statement reads to me as, "If seasons 3 and 4 do well enough that season 5 and 6 get officially greenlit, Imelda Staunton will be Elizabeth." So I'm guessing she has been cast...if the series continues as planned.
