Wow, THIRTEEN Shows Are Starting In March!

1st - Jesus Christ Superstar
6th - The Best Man
12th - Evita
15th - Ghost
15th - Newsies
19th - End of the Rainbow
21st - Magic/Bird
27th - Rebecca
28th - Peter and the Starcatcher
29th - Nice Work If You Can Get It
30th - Don't Dress for Dinner

And Clybourne Park and Streetcar Named Desire are still scheduled to start in March as well. Is this too much for one month? What I mean is, with such a huge influx of shows in such a short period of time, could they swallow each other up?

End of the Rainbow you have listed twice. 3/19 & 3/27 Trying to think what you wanted to put in the spot instead.

LOL, I just found Rebecca. It was bugging me what the other show was. :)

"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter." Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.

Is A Streetcar Named Desire still happening this season, for sure? An article about Daphne Rubin-Vega posted on Broadway.com yesterday made it seem like less than a sure thing.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

It just doesn't seem like there's a theatre for it at the moment. Maybe it could take the Cort if Stick Fly closes--that is, if they could put an entire brand-new production together that quickly.

I know it doesn't open until 6th April but One Man, Two Guvnors opens, which can be regarded as part of this spring season.

What shows do you think will tank?

What shows do you think will tank?

Probably the easiest one to call is REBECCA, since those Euro-rock musicals that have decade-plus runs in Vienna and Stuttgart have never really clicked on Broadway. But you never know.

^ LOMBARDI ran for nine months. You never know.

Yeah but LOMBARI was in a SMALL theater and had theater fans going for Judith Light as well as sports fans.

MAGIC/BIRD is going into a huge house with nothing to bring in the show queens.

Jordan, no offense but do they really need to bring in the 'show queens'. I mean both of the players chronicled in the show have acheivied larger than life staus in the sports community, with their popularity spreading across generations. There rivalry was fairly well known and actually sounds like good play material. Plus it's a chance to get people to broadway that wouldn't normally think to go and see a play. The show manily needs the promotion and some good reviews. It'll do alright.

Is MAGIC/BIRD getting any sports money, as LOMBARDI did? That could easily keep the show open.

I'm interested in seeing:
1st - Jesus Christ Superstar
12th - Evita
15th - Ghost
15th - Newsies
19th - End of the Rainbow
27th - Rebecca
28th - Peter and the Starcatcher
29th - Nice Work If You Can Get It

This is going to be a great year for musical theatre, I think :)

is 9 months good?

I'm sure their last few months were because of the Super Bowl win.

I just hope the ladies who watch Basketball Wives will be able to persuade their husbands to come to the theatre. And all of the people who are watching stick fly too.

How about Nice Work? ? ? ? Will Matthew B. be able to hold it up for a few months.

Considering the average commercial play on Broadway without rave reviews or majorly bankable stars runs about ten minutes, I'd say it's good, yeah.

A straight play that's good. Moreover i think they just need to see if they can get any ads or do any promotion with ESPN. If they try that i'll think they'll be able ot stick it out. As for Nice Work i have a feeling it'll go the way promises went.

if it's good. If it's bad, they'll never come back.

Poparia, if it's even half as good as the source material of the rivalry it'll do good. And yes that's a chance but i'm hopeful. It's a interesting enough idea at least.

I'm curious to see what they do with the design for Magic/Bird. It makes sense to do it in the round so you can have the court atmosphere, but in a traditional theater, I'm not sure the show will work so well. Has it even had an out-of-town tryout or anything? Are we even sure the show is dramatically entertaining? I thought Lombardi was actually pretty good, and I loved the design/direction of it, and I'm a "theater queen."

And Rebecca needs a better marquee. That poster is BORING.
